Doc, We were thinking $1000 for the pair. Replacements would be about $700ea. I imported a pair of 28's for the rear of our tank to try and tame the wheelspin. I spoke to the guys in Adelaide, and they were looking at bringing some in, but not sure when, and not sure if they would get enough to make...

Hard to tell. The car did not drive as well as last time, which is saying something, as last time wasn't all that flash. However, the track was not exactly in pristine condition. When I swapped the front and rear wheels around, I had no handling problems at all. Put the bigger tyes on the rear again...

Hi guys, a bit late to be joining this discussion, but we ran a LSD at meetings past. We found this to be no problem with the street tyres, but the car was moving from one edge of the track to the other with the land speed tyres. You were too busy steering the car to be able to look at any guages or...

Pete, there is no doubt it would be challenging, but it certainly can be done. Whether you can get to 200 mph will probably depend on your depth of pocket, a lot of horsepower is needed for that. I would guess around a $20,000 motor would be your starting point. As to the construction of the car, th...

The trouble with December is that it is very hot. The December working bee I attended had 45 degrees during the middle of the day, dropping to low 30's at night. I don't think it is practical to race in those temperatures. March is the best tradeoff between extreme temperatures and lake condition. I...

According to Paul, the two miles from the start line to the timing lights is the longest two miles he's ridden. 36 mph is a bit of a change from the usual 200! Just thinking about it, it would have taken nearly 4 minutes. His run was on a Friday, and we were about the only ones left, so it didn't ca...

I think the wandering is a traction issue. It was definatley a tail happy feeling. There was no change in the car, except for the tyres. They also showed scuffing on the contact area, and at $700 each, they are too dear to leave on the salt. The new rims are a bit narrower than the existing ones, wh...

Hello everyone. Work is about to start on the belly tank for next year. I have melted down about 200 kilos of lead from bits and pieces, plus a shitload of old tyre weights I bought at the wreckers for ballast. Hopefully this will cure the traction problems that the LSR tyres brought with them. I've...

I think there are some valuable messages or lessons in Rods incident. Some that spring to my mind are: What sort of material should we permit for the construction of fuel tanks. I would say that aluminium is probably not suitable. The venting needs to be looked at as well. That tank should not have ...

Gary, The race director can permit minor variations that do not change the minimum acceptable requirements. This would not allow him to waive the need for 3 inch harnesses, but may allow him to accept a 7 by 20 mm tailshaft loop, instead of the mandated 6 by 25 mm. The chief steward can waive any ru...

Guys, your comments about Australianising the rule book, and having to have SFI qualifications for drivers suits do not stand up. The rule book states that suits with CAMS approval are allowed. This is section 4.1.1 As to who can change the rule book, that is only the chief steward. The meetings can...

I read the article on the motorcycle web page, and it looks to me that in a car, the SNELL is probably not a bad thing, in that you are likely to get multiple hits in the same spot from either the roll bar setup or the car body. For a bike, I am inclined to agree with the article, that the SNELL sta...
