Re: Revisiting alternate sites

Hi All, In reality David may well be right. Smaller track more members. No one with much experience on clay surface. This will be a re enactment on a group scale the frustrations we experience as individuals when we face cancellation. If only a portion of participants get a chance to run. I for one ...

Re: Revisiting alternate sites

Hi All, run a ballot based on howmany runs possible over the day that can be realistically achieved. You win ya get to go! Having won the slot you would be sure to make the most of it. This way it is not some formula based approval process ticking all the boxes? Any thoughts?

Re: Revisiting alternate sites

Hi All, Paul from Tassie, Some time ago I approached Burnie Airport about using their second runway for testing out my bike and they seemed quite approachable about the idea. Not sure how they would feel about running a major event nor if they had the free space unallocated to landings and take offs...

Re: Nirous oxide attachment for a bike

Hi Ross and Bones, Ross you are right about "who the bike currently is" I would suggest it is in the transition stage from street to dry lake racer. Having not raced on salt yet I can not commit totaly to the sport for all the obvious reasons. Once I have that experience I am sure the bike...

Re: Gearing on zx 1200r

Hi Stayt'ie and Greg, Thanks for the tip on the balance thing between both front and back wheels. At the moment it handles like chopper with the 20 kg. in the swingarm so I will bring along some front forks straps to rachet them front down a tad. The 12,s in their natural unmolested state have an el...

Re: Nirous oxide attachment for a bike

Hi Jon, Yes I understand Ross,s observations and appreciate his concerns so rather than run the risk of not being able to race I will change the mounting of the bottle and swing it closer in line with the subframe + will make the bracket bolt directly to the subframe rather than the rear pillion bra...

Re: Gearing on zx 1200r

Hi David, Thanks for the comments. You are very right about the sprung V's the unsprung. Unfortuatly every availble space on my bike is filled with something else but it is a thought, to somehow load up balast somewhere other than the swing arm. There are somehard to get to spaces behind the motor w...

Re: Gearing on zx 1200r

Hi Greg, Stayt'ie, Hawkwind Hmmm that is a lot of ballast. I got no idea where the hell to put 120 kg on a zx1200, may be I should us the missus! Anyway I own a metal casting business so a couple of well fashioned lead weights may do the trick near the swingarm pivot point. Going to put the bike bac...

Re: Nirous oxide attachment for a bike

Hi Ross, Thanks for your comments. I am supprised, as the rear pillion bracket is cast 4mm thick C section aluminum in a triangular shape with 4 x 5mm scocket head screws going through 10mm thick nylon spacer into a 5mm thick aircraft grade aluminum. The C section rear pillion bracket is 4mm the sub...

Re: Gearing on zx 1200r

Hi All Thanks for the input. I will work on trialing a 41 and a 38 as I have 2 x 2.5lb. bottles. It sounds petty exciting wheeling for half a mile hunting for traction. I have filled my swingarm with 20 kg of lead shot and lowered the bike by 50mm.I am hoping the bottle will last 18 to 20 secs and t...

Re: Gearing on zx 1200r

Hi Stayfie, Thanks for the question. Currently on a 40 shot with progressive controller. Want to try and keep the wheel spin down and the top speed up hence the taller gearing. I have run it up on the dyno on a 44 tooth rear but its still a bit savage when the power comes on. I know there is splipag...

Gearing on zx 1200r

Hi all, Not having raced on salt before and having only drag racing experience back in the late 70's I need some advice on gearing for the salt. Through much deliberating and a suitcase full of bright unused rear sprokets I have settled on a 41 rear and 17 front. The bike developes around 200 RWP wh...

Re: Timing distance?

Hi Cookey, Thanks for the clarification. Seems I will need to bring in the nos ealier than expected and run longer than expected. Quite aware of traction issues just wasn't sure how long the timed section was.

Timing distance?

Hi All, Paul from Tassie, Just want to get it clear in my head about the timing distance. Iam hoping to run on the long track for a 200 + speed and i need to know what distance is the timing over. Is it 3 miles or 1 mile. The reason for this question is I am runnig nitrous on my bike and the bottle ...
