It was very much a small social gathering with some talk of trying to find a suitable venue for a test and tu...

Re: West Australian Timing Association.

Yes it has been investigated - a few times actually. The mining company lease, thin unstable salt, proximity to built a up area and I believe a causeway across it all impede our chances. When I checked a few years ago I found that Rod Hadfield among others had thoroughly investigated and come away e...

Re: West Australian Timing Association.

I spoke to Rosco about this site a couple of years ago. He gave me the contact details of the people who have the lease on the site but did warn me that it would be a no go. They are based at Jandakot I think. I spoke with them - they sell the salt to the food industry and need it to be in pristine ...

So Rob, all this discussion brings us neatly back to annealed hydraulic tube which is low carbon, seamless and readily available in the specified sizes from Van Leeuwin. It's not the cheapest steel tubing on the market though, but it is a quality product - the question is answered. Thank's for your ...

Maybe a well engineered and fabricated vehicle made with inferior materials is going to be more surviable in a bad bingle than a badly engineered piece made from the worlds most exotic materials. Unless you have the resources to destruction test as per F1 will any of us ever really know? I hope we d...

Yes - I see that Ross Brown has done his entire build in stainless tubing. I would like to see a comment or two from him on that.

The rule book says ' Low carbon (mild) steel tubing is recommended for the construction of all types of roll bars and cage type structures.' It then goes on to address mounting and installation, dimensions, gusset and welding requirements and makes mention of chrome moly etc but does not, that I can...

I brought some annealed hydraulic tube from Van Leeuwin in Perth for my cage structure. I have not used it yet and have had the tubing poo - pooed by a guy that builds formula vees on a regular basis. He recommended that I visit Searle Race Equipment located in Welshpool WA because he says they carr...

Try your Caterpillar tractor dealership for those flanged bolts and nuts Doc. I don't know that they have them for sure, but they do have a large enough variety to have a fastener catalogue and it includes a wide selection of fasteners that you often struggle to find elsewhere.

Don't forget guy's these are only idea's being put forward or maybe people thinking out loud - so to speak. Before anything can be implemented I imagine the idea's need to be put to management, a relevant comittee or a general meeting for voting on.

Idea's list

Hello all. Many, many idea's and experiments etc have been put forward over recent years throughout this forum. I think the time has come for them all to be listed and categorised so that they can be presented to the club management for consideration. If this is not done soon they could be forgotten...
