Re: First Lakester build

Mate, I see you have plenty of views but no replies as yet which is surprising. My experience has been with full bodied sedan cars but there are plenty of racers on the forum to get advice from. I would suggest you post a reply on the forum to one of the existing lakester builders/racers with your q...

Re: Some implications for social media posts

Sorry I am a bit late to the discussion.
I think it would be a good idea to just have fully paid members being able to post but anyone being able to view. I have been a member for 15 years and I think it is a great way of us keeping up to date with what is happening in the club.

Re: The Millennium Falcon

Great to hear it is all coming along well. I find that race car stuff is a welcome respite from the issues we all face in the rest of our work/family lives. Mine steering connector is a hex and I dont find it loose at all. I had to do some mods to fit the Jag steering shaft. Mine is also a button ty...

Re: Shaguar

Jaguar V12 engines are known for getting hot when under load, whether they have been maintained properly or not. Air flow through the radiator and engine bay is clearly a problem because of clearance. Shaguar won't have airflow problems whilst on a run but will have heat sink issues once I pull the ...

Re: The Millennium Falcon

Sounds like it is really coming together well. I notice that you pictured two isolating switches. The one with the field cut is the one to go for. With the other one, even if you disconnect the battery the alternator can still be generating enough charge back into the system to keep fuel pumps etc o...

Re: Shaguar

I have a number of different things on the boil at the moment. Between the dry sump pump, engine plate, Chev LSA harmonic balancer, ribbed belt pulleys for alternator and blowers (in the future) and ignition trigger wheel I am trying to fit in the extractor fabrication. Rob Cranfield's ability with ...

Re: The Millennium Falcon

Mate, I would think seriously about how much you will need to pay someone to disable all that electronic crap out of the standard system and then re wire it as opposed to buying a good new stand alone EMS. There are plenty to choose from and with a bit of tuition you can make up most of your own har...

Re: Shaguar

In 2015 it got very loose as I passed the 4 mile marker and pulled the chute real quick. I remember thinking that it felt too far gone, the same as my 2013 spin at 195mph. Fortunately the chute pulled it straight just in time. Mark Dunn's lakester ran just after me and it got loose as well. Trent Cl...

Re: The Millennium Falcon

Mate, I don't think you will have a problem with road tyres for E/BFALT but they will limit you to 200mph. You could be safe if you put in a deviation request via the form at the back of the rule book just to be sure so you can leave your options open. Re doing it all by yourself- some blokes are lu...

Re: The Millennium Falcon

I just PM'ed you. It wasn't that there will necessarily be changes for monocoque cars. It was more so it is clear what the requirements should be. Lionel will be able to help in that regard. Re the 4 to 1 ratio. That is not good enough. I want to see a concerted effort over the next 12 months to 4 t...

Re: The Millennium Falcon

Good to see you are going Ford! Remember that there looks to be some changes made to the rule book re roll cages soon. That probably where you need to start. Unless you are thinking about a chop or moving the engine back! Get a plan in your head about exactly what you want and stick to it. There is ...

Re: Shaguar

Pete, Theoretically and in isolation the idea of a hub dyno sounds good but as you know there are a lot of things that have to come together. I try to have the engine builder in attendance to set up as well as the tuner guy. It is best if the tuner guy is using his own dyno. The tuner guy also needs...

Re: Shaguar

Yes the Doug Nash has proven itself. I like the ratios and the shifter and more importantly I have a Quicktime scattershield now that fits the Jag V12 which is a mandatory requirement. It is a 5 speed but still 1:1 in top gear. Because the diff/tyre gearing is staying the same despite the change in ...

Re: APS/G 250

I remember the first time I had my engine on a Dyno. It was at Steve Masterton's workshop in Liverpool in 1985 thereabouts. It was excruciating. I had to go for a walk down the street but I could still hear the blower screaming. Thankfully it came home in one piece.
Good luck on the 11th June!
