Re: Four Tracks for 2018
Lets get this working group started now. Who else wants to be part of it, either on this forum or with face to face meetings or by phone hook up or any combination of the three?

Re: Bike Guys
Years ago we didn't take a lunch break, which was fine by me, I just ate while I was on the go. The lunch break wastes four hours of track time every year. At it's optimum that means we waste 28 runs a day on T2 and 14 runs on T1. 42 times 4 is 168 runs that don't happen. Why do we persist with proc...

Re: Bike Guys
As you can tell, one thing that never changes and is getting very annoying is the start line van. It is worn out and useless and has been ever since we introduced the second track. We need to either have the two start lines converge so we can get by with one new van or have the start lines in differ...

Re: Bike Guys
Damn it, I hate it when I spend a long time composing a pithy and well considered response only to have it disappear when I press submit. Here's the quick version : Redyammy, you are so right but you forgot the shade! Having had my suggestions ignored or copped abuse by morons for years now I predic...

Re: Bike Guys
Don't panic Chris, I'm definitely not suggesting we seek CAMS affiliation, all we're after is some officials who are experienced and might be able to add value. And lets face it, twenty more toilets might just be enough!

Re: Bike Guys
That makes sense. It would be interesting to see where we might find these people, ANDRA or CAMS officials would probably be the most likely choice. I wonder what they'd make of it all. If nothing else, fresh eyes might see the solutions we're missing. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Four Tracks for 2018
Earlier I mentioned that it would be really handy if the T3 racers brought their own GPS unit along to save a lot of messing about. Jaycar and various e-Bay sites sell digital GPS speedos fairly cheap. These would be even better than a normal GPS because they work as a speedo all the time, so racers...

Re: Four Tracks for 2018
This year on Track 2 we had the medical crew with us (Dr Scott and his medico mates) running their Escort so we were well covered. It is always better to have the doctor arrive before the rescue crew as anyone seriously injured won't be moved until they're stabilised. If it's a bike that goes down t...

Re: Four Tracks for 2018
Thanks Tone, you've got the right attitude, you could easily do a shift as a starter! The sub 100 vehicles are already there and always have been. These competitors have often told me that their bikes (it's usually old bikes) aren't really up to going flat out for the full T2 distance and they have ...

Four Tracks for 2018
This might get some attention! Elsewhere on this forum in the last day or two I have suggested various changes to the way we do our annual track layout. Look in "Volunteers 2017" for the posts. It seems like we are stuck in a bit of a rut as the layout looks remarkably similar year after y...

Re: Bike Guys
I don't see that paid staff could do the job any better, unless they already have Speedweek experience. Look at the canteen, they're paid staff and they're new every year and the standard varies considerably. Plus they aren't racers so they don't understand us properly.

Re: Bike Guys
And yet sometimes I see up to "14 guests online in the last 5 minutes" down the bottom of the page. Facebook is all well and good for glossy photos and videos but not much else. Yes, having novices volunteer all the time isn't ideal but they have to start somewhere and I'm happy to have th...

Re: Volunteers 2017
I just got a PM from a long time member who was in favour of the priority line. As it stands, I am vehemently opposed to it, but he got me thinking about other possibilities. His idea was to have the Priority Line (aka PL) for cars and bikes faster than 225 mph, of which there were about ten. In my ...

Re: Bike Guys
Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzzE6XLbC8M The starters job would be OK if we could get a few people doing it, even if it was just two people doing half days it would be sort of enough although less exposure to the heat would be preferable. Pete and I have both had recent discussions wi...
