I love 'em
Ron, I can't figure out why people aren't building similar cars to his. They all go really hard, they all can use various engines, they're all really simple and none of them would be very expensive to make. The chassis (what is the plural?) are just simple space frames, he's in the fibreglass busine...

Stop it now!
Doc, stop messin' with my head! I can do that myself. That UK MR2 website told of manual conversions for "my" V6 using the flywheel from a 4Runner. So maybe the 4x4 gearbox bolts up too. Of course now my head is wondering about an F/BGL using the 4x4 drive train with 3 spool diffs and a va...

Sunday night
Well, another weekend is over and I have spent some of Saturday and most of today fiddling in the backyard. From any distance it looks like nothing has changed but I have put a lot of effort into the final position of the motor. I am so sick of trying to get a good fit. I'll just have to mount the b...

hoowee!!
That's a helluva bike, Gary. Must be a wild ride. What engine is it? The only other question I'll ask for now is are you sure no salt will get into the turbo intake? I was thinking that salt coming off the top of the tire as it leaves the mudguard and hits the air stream (at double actual road speed...

and today
And today before I went to the dentist this morning ($400!) I got stuck into the battery tray with an angle grinder. Used one of those 1mm thick cut off wheels, they are the duck's guts, it cut through the steel like it was cardboard. Just a few bits left hanging by spot welds now, will finish them ...

here he comes
As in whippy yo' ass? But does it play Greensleeves? I'm reminded of the scene from Borat when the kids come running up to the window of his ice cream van and the bear roars at them!

thanks
Thanks Don, I got distracted and put more of this story on my Celica thread. There's an off road buggy place in Stafford that will probably do it for me. And barring unforeseen circumstance I'll be at the Christmas party, hopefully with some progress photos.

it's a start
Years ago when we were planning an extension on the house I used to stand out in the backyard just looking and thinking for so long and so often that the neighbours used to make jokes about it. That habit hasn't left me. Doc, your list idea is good, I will try it. I started tonight. What could I do ...

you had to ask
No Doc, no sudden movements at this end. I'm genuinely embarrassed to admit that progress has been glacial at best. Here come the excuses. What with family commitments, work and business pressures and unhelpful weather I'm struggling to find more than half a day a week to play with the car. And esse...

how much??!!!
I rang British International Trading in Sydney today. They have stock of 2" x .120" Racetech 350 CDS/DOM tubing. It costs $27.24 a metre and comes in "random cut" 6 metre lengths. That's $163 a length, give or take a few cm and a few dollars. I hadn't given any thought to how muc...

more ideas
Thanks for all the input fellas, it really helps to get good advice from everyone on this forum. At this stage I'm tempted to use the cold drawn seamless tube but this very much depends on price and availability. If I use plain welded ms tube I'll remember whitworth's advice about seam placement. Fo...

oh duh!
Doc, I mentioned your suggestion today to my 15yo daughter who rolled her eyes, as most teenagers do, and said "Dad, go to Gun Exhausts in Stafford, they do all that sort of stuff". They are literally just down the road so I'll try them first, the place is always full of hot cars and they ...

Thanks fellas
Doc, Greg & Gaz, Thanks for your advice gentlemen, I could see myself heading off on a tangent for a while there. Sometimes the obvious answer isn't so easy to see. I hadn't really considered exhaust shops because many of the exhaust pipes I'd seen had lots of deformation on the inside of the be...

aeroclub
That aeroclub website can also find QLD airstrips, 17 pages of them. Most at a quick glance seem to be station airstrips for light aircraft and RFDS and would be short and unsealed and full of emus. Couldn't find much info on lengths either. Will have to get Google Earth and keep looking. Found some...

difficulties
Doc, I saw that same photo! I was impressed by the flat surface as far as the horizon but not impressed with the location. Far too far from anywhere any of us live, the closest town is hours away, absolutely zero facilities, the logistical difficulties would be insurmountable, it's bound to be stink...
