Re: Universal chassis

Bones, Is the Weslake dead in the water? Be a shame if it was. Or do you have plans? Here's a spur to get it back on the rails.

Re: Universal chassis

Jim makes the CX650 fly but I don't think I'm as talented as him at building one. So I'll take a shot at building one of these.

Re: Universal chassis

I met him at SpeedWeek. Didn't get to talk to him long enough. I guess the Weslake is dead in the water. Shame. Was hoping to spur him to re-do it.

Re: Universal chassis

Bones. It was good to meet you on the salt. Sorry it wasn't longer meeting but that place tends to get a bit crazy. Did you stay for BUB? We had a great time with the "big" (546) Weslake, Ran a best of 129.475 for the mile. And a couple of records. Hope you haven't given up entirely on you...

Re: Mr Whippy 0 Vs corrosion 10

Funny you should say that. I just spent the last two nights going through all the electrical connections on my sidecar. And just about everything else. Each time I go to do something I see two other things that need to be done. Salt sucks except for racing on.

Re: Universal chassis

Thats Jim's CX. I'm not sure I'd want to go to that much effort for an engine I don't believe is any better than a good Weslake.

Re: Universal chassis

They look like big, heavy lumps. I'm not sure the sidecar would hold it. But it is an idea. Turning it sideways for chain drive might present a problem (however minor). The 750 sidecar records at Bonneville are pathetic (and the 650 records).

Re: Universal chassis

Hey Bones! Hope you get a handle on the Weslake. Way ahead of ring a dings. I'm hoping to do all the El Mirage meets and SpeedWeek. SpeedWeek is the main target. It would be nice to do BUB and WoS but realistically my finances won't run to that. I built a new body for the sidecar. Much like it was b...

Re: Universal chassis

I just saw that the meet has been cancelled. Very sorry to hear that. A lot of work gone down the drain. Has the DRLA ever thought about a date change or a rain out date?

Re: Universal chassis

The vibration is curious. Singles shake but not as bad as you describe. I don't have a head steady on either of mine. Both are mounted in 3/8" plate. On the Norton I put a 1/2" rod through the center stand mount lugs for additional support. If you look at the bottom of the photo below the ...

Re: Universal chassis

The last time I spoke to Dave was at Bonneville. He wanted me to buy his Weslake stuff. But Bonneville ate up my money so I passed. Are you going to be back here anytime soon?

Re: Universal chassis

Bones, Great to hear it started but remember its a single. Single is another word for vibration. The Wessie in the Norton breaks brackets on a regular basis and has broken the rear fender. I have a rubber pad on the sidecar to rest my head during a run. When I'm waiting to run I have to keep my head...

I'll look forward to that.

Good luck at BUB. 135 is a tough row to hoe.

Re: Universal chassis

I'd love to say hello if you make it here. So far the plan is El Mirage in July, SpeedWeek in August and the remainder of the El Mirage season. Sept., Oct., and Nov. Assuming it all stays together. Are you bringing the Weslake or just having a look see?

Re: Universal chassis

No. I've got the sidecar entered for SpeedWeek. Put a little blower on it to run in the blown classes. Finding the right jetting is like finding Weslake part nos.!
