Re: Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC400

After a long sabbatical I've started spending on Soarer again this week. Namely a set of throttle bodies from a Nissan RB26. I still need a 4th pair so if anyone knows of one or a cheap set of three please do let me know. Now that I have these I can buy a lump of aluminium plate and start to whittle...

Re: New Guy questions

If you want a longer wheelbase (2850mm VS 2690mm) go to the LS400 rather than the SC400/Soarer. They have a lower CD (0.27 LS vs 0.32 SC) but more frontal area however the CDA equates to the same for both cars. Had I known that I may not have opted for the Soarer but one came up at the right price a...

Re: Shaguar

Chris, The injectors were definitely an issue. Once cleaned it ran fine, without cleaning it would not start. We proved that by making a squirt bottle and giving it a splash. It would start and run fine on the prime. Once the injectors were cleaned it started on the key and ran again. First sign of ...

Re: Shaguar

But.. the engine still runs on 8 cylinders The two symptoms that got us this far are hard to crank with the plugs out (we still believe salt in the starter at this stage) and a 2/3 drop in oil pressure. oh and engine not "on song" which we had previously thought to be injectors/methanol re...

Re: Shaguar

Greg, The followers are solids and the rollers appeared to be fine at first inspection other than the one with the bent link. I say first inspection because they were only removed and stored, not cleaned yet. The rollers did seem to spin freely and the mating surfaces looked fine other than the one ...

Re: Shaguar

From the Americas comes the question.. if it had 0.022 clearance and we lost the lobe but the rest of the valve train is fine, why do we now have something approaching 0.500 ? That would require a good deal of material to leave the back of the cam? It is a good question and is currently doing my hea...

Re: Shaguar

Chris,

Would that not also show on the faces of the rollers?

Cheers,

Re: Shaguar

We don't know yet Greg, We stopped after we had pulled the lifters and the cam is still in the engine and will pull the engine/trans in the next session. Per the video there were clearance issues on any number of valves, not just the one with the bent link which is on the opposite bank to those vide...

Re: Shaguar

Grumm,

The cam is (was) a Crow Cams steel billet. Other than the bent link on one pair and scarfing of that lifter roller on one edge, at first inspection the rest of the rollers and their bearings in the lifters appear fine.

Time will tell.

Re: Shaguar

Now that it's become apparent the cam has lost a lot of lobe, it's off with the inlet, revealing another issue. http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/Dwizdofoz/Shaguar/JagEngineWoes007_zps0a15b5e5.jpg Close up http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/Dwizdofoz/Shaguar/JagEngineWoes006_zps6351137c...

Re: Shaguar

Part of the plan too was to check the valve clearances and this is where it all went horribly wrong. Nothing discernible in this image however the video tells the tale. http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/Dwizdofoz/Shaguar/JagEngineWoes003_zps99bd6f5c.jpg This is the eye watering part. All we h...

Re: Shaguar

As Gary said, I went over today with the intention of sorting the whys as to the low oil pressure and to have a look the on board video/data logs. After having a quick discussion it was out with the grill, off with the bonnet and a hair cut for the engine. With the blower off we can get the the oil ...
