Hope this is not too far off the topic- although I am a salt virgin, have had plenty of experience in working out overall ratios. With the tremac 5 speed in the Targa Vette using a vette Dana 3.45 diff and Dunlop Formula-R 245/40ZR17 tyres the speeds in gear are as follows: 1ST 47 mph 2nd 78 3rd 115...

Am gradually starting to absorb a tiny bit of the experience and knowledge from you salties who have been there and done that. Funny how just one comment can start you thinking- like BIG GAZ (4/5/09) I thought of red hot headers and an oil/fuel break or alternator problems* add 200 mph and suddenly ...

For Rob- I have been through the pain of making a scattershield (sports sedans years ago)- would not even consider it now even though I have a better lathe and a milling machine. When Trev and I mounted a Tremec box to the Vette years ago, using a good quality Castlemaine Rod Shop bellhousing, it st...

Top Gear Aust Mag

My wife bought me a copy of May Top Gear Aust Mag today, and said "Look at page 55- so that's where you're going next year! They look like a mad mob of buggers!" I said "Yes- twice. Very sexy centrefold featuring Big Knob Racing, and a good, but short feature.

Thanks Bob- will post query here. Am using a "tall" Dart Rocket Block for the 434. Vetteracer PS I have been well trained- as part of my checklist for Targa scruitineering at Brisbane, there was always a bottle of Burbon in the vette. (I am being serious now- it was not for bribery- just a...

Hi David- thanks for the helpful aero tip- will now fit an overdrive reverse gear, just in case your theory is correct! BTW,I have a query re engine blocks and the RULEBOOK. For future reference what is the protocol? Should I put a post here, or on a different forum- or a PM to a scrut. or the moder...

Don- am now inclined to agree with you- thanks for the support. Just having to think out loud by posts on the site has helped to sort out my priorities. I want to run on the salt as hard and as safely as I can- stuff the rego bit. It was not until I finished a careful read of THE RULE BOOK last nigh...

You are spot on Chris- measured the CAMS cage last night and while the main hoop is ok, the front legs and braces are a bit light on. That spare chassis down the paddock is looking better by the minute- still it only owes me 3slabs (freight on a backload from melbourne to Qld- mates rates) so I gues...

Dr Goggles- mate you are too late. My vette/s have already been molested! I've been playing with race cars all of adult life, & my motto has always been to build them for going, not for showing. My goal is to go 200 mph in a road registered vette. I have 3 vettes in my shed, in various states of...

Rob/Bob- thanks for the feedback. The vette has a CAMS approved full cage (Targa Tasmania) but will have to check the rule book - will follow your advice and try to not assume anything.

600 hp Corvette

G' day- my first time- please be gentle. I'm totallly new to the salt, but did run my 1984 (C4) Corvette in the 1994 Cannonball Run. Finished 3rd outright and 1st n/a. The donk was a home built 355 ci chev, which had 366hp at the wheels which I estimate to be about 425 hp @ the flywheel. This was go...
