Not yet
Ron, No, I haven't even been to the Lake yet. My brother and I have been interested for years and we finally decided to drive down for a good look this year. We got to Rennmark before we heard it was off. Almost sorry we didn't keep going just for the look. I decided I couldn't wait another year to ...

practical
I think you might just be right Doc, even though I can't help wanting to have my own bender, making one would waste a lot of time and effort. And as you alluded to recently, these projects can drag on so easily if you let yourself get bogged down with unnecessary detail. I must keep reminding myself...

Tube bender?
Does anybody in Brisbane have a proper tube bender? I want to start building my roll cage and I've been in touch with every hire place but all they have is pipe benders which are not the same and are useless for making smooth bends in tube. One place in Melbourne will sell me a proper semi circular ...

spoiled for choice
I don't think having other options would decrease the numbers of cars at Lake Gairdner. I really think it would be the opposite. Given that it is the best salt in the world it must be the ultimate attraction for most people and if new people (like me) run a car or bike at a shorter test and tune ven...

research
Mr Noble, Can you tell us any more about your local version of Mangalore? Before our last get together I was doing some www research on airstrips but I couldn't find anything that met all of the desired criteria, i.e. within a couple of hours of Brisbane, a sealed strip and a decent length. I was lo...

more gratuitous advice
Doc, Chris is right about the brakes, check out Tilton or AP Racing for some good ideas about pedal and master cylinder setups. You could even run remote cylinders connected to the pedal by a long pull rod. Is there any room under your knees? As for the gearshift, we had this discussion a few months...

whoa there!
Doc, if Mangalore ever becomes Australia's Maxton you might like to consider some front disc brakes, there's plenty of room in there. The throttle stays flat much longer when you know you can stop. Good to see you found lots of little glitches when they don't matter so much. It should be a real weap...

Come on Doc, don't leave us in suspenders, how did the lakester go? Can you steer it, can you stop it, does it overheat, is it as fast as it looks, is it fun?

daytime TV
Did you know that Centrelink actually makes all the Australian daytime TV programs that run between 0900 and 1200 Monday to Friday? Apparently they figure that the shows will drive regular viewers so mad that they will eventually repent of their indolent ways and get a job just so they don't have to...

two stroke?
Maybe the "never have to change the oil" claim is designed to imply it might be a two stroke. Of course, even they need oil, but if you're burning it you never have to change it. I found the whole thing entirely unconvincing, the display engine has no fuel delivery system, no cooling syste...

Norm's knighthood
I'd like to nominate Norm for a knighthood, who'll second the motion? With some organisation runway 05/23 could be used for standing mile runs like Maxton and 18/36 could be used for standing kilometre. Keeping it simple, just use 05/23 and mark out both lengths on it. Imagine that, surveyed once, m...

on the right page at last
I had another look at Bob's car and I understand it better now. Mounting the aluminium solidly is the trick, if it bends under wind load it'll just let air under the car. I'd be looking at ways of encouraging the airflow out to the sides of the car to relieve some of the pressure. Maybe an air inlet...

yeah, right
Call me cynical but getting something to turn slowly when you add compressed air is nothing special and certainly not new technology. If they actually had it running on their bio-diesel on a dyno and generating anything like the power and economy numbers they claim then I'd be impressed. 500hp and 1...
