Re: theTRUTH
That isn't quite what I mean although it isn't a bad idea. I was actually thinking more along the lines of the way a standard Harley clutch is arranged. The whole thing is mounted on a jackshaft behind the motor with a chain driving a collar that the flywheel is bolted to. The clutch then protrudes ...

Re: theTRUTH
In the CB750 gearboxes I'm sure a couple of the bearings ran on splined shafts but I'm stretching the memory a bit. There was definitely a couple of sleeves in there as well so who knows..... It seems facebook have changed the way they operate and the linking of pictures is no longer working for me....

Re: theTRUTH
The other issue might be available bearing sizes. I can't find any with an ID that will fit that size shaft so it may need to step down a little either side of the spline. with two bearings between the sprocket on the left and the clutch unit, and then another two on the far right side as close as p...

Re: theTRUTH
I've been giving some thought to your comments on a one piece jackshaft and I think you might be on the right track. My way of thinking is the splined shaft to match the spline on the clutch discs could run right through the centre of the whole unit and the section holding the flywheel could have a ...

Re: Another V8 bike
Radiator's a tricky one. I've had a few ideas including 2 small ones either side of the back wheel or somewhere in the tail piece. I'm leaning towards using an EK civic unit as they're small and thin and sticking it right in front of the motor but I'm still not 100% about that. I will also have an o...

Re: Another V8 bike
Momec3 yep the image is just the back section. The block is around 55cm plus all the odds and ends that hang off the front. I'm not sure that it is shorter than an LS but it's amazing how small they start to look once you bolt all the motorcycle stuff to them. When you think about bikes like the CBX...

Re: theTRUTH
I have a three plate 7 1/4" clutch. I bought it second hand without a flywheel then picked up a suitable flywheel separately from someone who had one sitting on a shelf for ages. Buying new is probably a far better option but I tend to collect parts slowly when they're cheap as my budget is lim...

Re: theTRUTH
Hmm the gracious offer of another project is always tempting...but experience has taught me exactly how many worms are in the CB750 can. Best not open another one. Grumm you are correct about the oil pump. It can be removed with the engine in the frame. You just drop the sump, undo 3 bolts (I think ...

Re: theTRUTH
Yes that is a CB750 in my avatar. Built it as a road bike first then converted it for nostalgia drags. It was pieced together out of a couple of crashed bikes and three damaged engines. Once it was built, just could not break it despite flogging it mercilessly. And that sound...... Sadly I no longer...

Re: Another V8 bike
Thanks to a change in job work on the bike has been a little slow lately but it is moving. Fortunately said job has also grown the racing budget slightly so it's not all bad. Part of this build involves learning to cast my own parts as there's some kinda odd stuff I need and I like learning new skil...

Re: theTRUTH
No sure what parts availability is like for the LS but for my Holden I'm using a remote electric water pump to save width. A plate with a hose fitting fits where the old pump used to go and shortens things up quite a bit. The parts are all Davies Craig and I'd be shocked if they didn't do a kit for ...

Re: theTRUTH
Hoofhearted, I must say I was thinking the same thing. Look at the system used on the BUB streamliner. It does have suspension but is basically a very short conventional fork attached to a conventional steering head. Simple and proven. Not saying the proposed system won't work, just that there is en...
