Re: Bike Guys

Trevor Slaughter had an air conditioned 20ft container one year. It ran on solar panels and a wall of batteries. Impressive. A generator would be cheaper. I'm not convinced that the old story about bike riders not pulling their weight still applies, if it ever really did. I always get great help fro...

Re: Volunteers 2017

I forgot to mention that if we had T2 at three miles long and T3 right behind it at two miles long we almost have a spare T1. That's really adding versatility.

Re: Volunteers 2017

Thinking more about your volunteering experience, Gary, has got me pondering (again  ) the notion of a third track. People usually howl this down with claims that we don't have enough volunteers, but it sounds like that isn't actually the case after all. I'm just thinking out loud here and thi...

Re: How to be a Good Starter

Thanks Chris for that phone call in 2013 asking if I could help out on the start line, I think it all turned out pretty well. I just wish we had been able to have a decent camp setup from 2013 so that we could recover better every night. A better equipped start line would have helped too. In another...

Re: Volunteers 2017

Gary, Thanks for your comments. Ironically, Bob Ellis was complaining that he didn't have enough help scrutineering the cars. I think that's the sort of thing that a volunteer coordinator would help improve. And why did Tom Banks say we didn't have enough volunteers? Maybe he knew of gaps that weren...

Re: Newbie Bike Classes

Richard,

Here's what I had in mind. Enjoy. By the way, just have a look at the salt all over the Ducati.

Re: Newbie Bike Classes

Fortunately I am old enough to be able to use the 4 speed column shift. None of this three on the tree rubbish! it was the holes in the floor I didn't much like, they were so big there was salt spray on the inside of the back window! I wonder what we'll get to replace old Rusty.

Re: Volunteers 2017

I happened to run into Tom Banks at the Willowbank Nostalgia Drags the other week and, unsurprisingly, we were discussing how to further improve Speedweek for 2018. He complained that it is very hard to get enough volunteers to achieve what we need. I find that hard to imagine. Every entrant MUST pr...

Re: How to be a Good Starter

Thanks Mr H, the reason we manage so well is good volunteers like your wife Barbara. She turns up every year, knows what she's doing and makes my job so much easier. Claire and Dave Bolger are also champions. This year I was also blessed with the help of Tracy from Triple Affleck. Thanks also to Joh...

Re: Newbie Bike Classes

Richard, Further to my comments of last night and after having another look at your Beeza, I can tell where it will rust after you run it on the salt. This isn't just for you, it's for everyone with a bike like it. I see a lot of ferrous metal on your bike. The spoke wheels worry me, salt spray will...

How to be a Good Starter

Hello everyone, My brother and I have decided that after five years as starters we have done enough for the time being. We originally started running the start line in 2013 as volunteers for Trevor Slaughter but he last ran in 2014. We'd like to do something else now. Pete is now a flaggie for the A...

Re: Newbie Bike Classes

Richard, Les is correct, your lovely old BSA is wasted and at risk on the salt. Don't take it, get something else that is cheap, has no sentimental value, can at least go 100 mph and has parts readily available and you'll enjoy the week much more. You really should volunteer so that you better under...

Re: 2017 Satellite Imaging

Isn't that bizarre? How can a trench move? I wonder how deep the blue bits have to be to turn blue. There is still a faint mark where the "Blue Channel" used to be. Maybe it is part of the lunar cycle and moves around every month. Someone probably knows.

Thanks Greg,
We can make that happen, even the two way runs. We will do whatever it takes to give Ben a real shot at the record.

Cheers
