Thats a well nibbled piston! The rear wheel spin starter I used I had to back the Weslake on compression or else it wouldn't turn over. The new starter doesn't care where the piston is. It just cranks. Too bad you aren't nearer. You could have the rear wheel spin starter. I'll never go back to it. I...

Fancy jig!!! I could put that to good use! I do the timing with the head on and a dial gauge on the inlet valve. I've been told thats the only way to do it. But there are many ways to skin a cat. I like your idea a lot better. My way is a pita! On the Norton I'm running a 24/42 primary and a 21/42 f...

Re: front wheel

Hoof, you could always do a Jack Costella and make an aluminium (note correct spelling  ) front wheel in whatever diameter you like once you exceeded the speed rating of the H-rated 145 R10. By the way, what do you use on the outrigger? Cheers Dave :D The sidecar wheel is a 5" kart wheel...

The build sure is going quick! I don't mean this to be a nosey speed secret seeking question but I'm curious to know what valve timing you are going to use. Weslake says 98-102 deg. I was originally told by our west coast guru to go to 112 but I found 106 made the Weslake very happy. I have a "...

That will be a funny holiday. I can see your longsuffering lying back on the deck chair sun glasses and swimmers on, you miles away pacing and staring at your watch. Have fun Chris That'll be about it. I had thought of trailering the sidecar along but I reckoned that would get me deep in it. ...

Hey Bones. Thats interesting. The engine number on the Weslake in the Norton is 2551 E LPS but ti has the standard stud into crankcase set up. I've never been able to find too much info on dating engines. but I haven't given up yet. Love that top engine mount!! The engine doesn't look like it will m...

Sounds like its an early Weslake with that head stud set up. I'll have to go search. I made up a 1/2 (U.S.) gallon tank for the Norton for Bonneville last year. Running gas it only used 1 quart over 2 1/4 miles. The Weslake in the sidecar uses a similar amount. The amount of oil used over 1.3 miles ...

Naw. My balls aren't that talented. I read the rule book closely (a number of times). The scrutineers still threw me out the first time I presented it for scrutiny. Heres the handlebars. Kinda hidden in the other photo [img] By weslake at...

Hey Bones. I'll be there in Sept. The Weslake in the Norton is getting a rest this year. I'll have the Weslake powered sidecar out. With a bit of luck it will be a 550cc (overbore to 90mm) Weslake running in the 650 class. I'll look forward to meeting you. P.S. More build photos please. P.P.S. Looki...

Great looking build! I've been running an old Weslake like yours in a featherbed at El Mirage and Bonneville for years. Bulletproof motors. I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses and how fast it will run. Good luck.

I was fortunate enough to see the Goldenrod during its restoration at Mike Cook's shop. Magazine articles are fine but there is no way they can show the incredible workmanship and ingenuity that went into that machine. Its actually quite humbling to stand beside it. Particularly if you have any sort...

Interesting question. On your poll I would have to vote yes and no. Yes in the fact that it took me 10 years to set a record (at El Mirage) with my Norton. And no as I set a record witht my sidecar the first time out. Again at El Mirage. The Norton ran 129.817 mph on a 127 minimum. But the sidecar w...
