Re: FEET FORWARD AG1350
If that rider (I never knew his name) comes back this year he'd better have a stronger bike and leathers that actually fit. Or have lost 20 kg. Animal did have a word to them but as the bike was dead there was no point to any card being issued. If I'd been running a track this year I would have rela...

Re: FEET FORWARD AG1350
Don't worry, the rookies will be a doddle. Most of them will be as nervous as a tomcat at the vet, so they will do anything you tell them. If any of them complain about waiting remind them that Track 2 can manage about 28 runs an hour if NOTHING goes wrong so they won't have to wait very long. If th...

Re: FEET FORWARD AG1350
Harky, I just noticed this thread. Have you had a good look at "Hoofhearted's" lay down side car from Bonneville. Bill Anderson is his name. He has his handlebars down low, but there's no obvious reason why they couldn't be a bit higher. Here's a link to a world of thought: https://www.goo...

Re: Rookie Questions
Derek, What I forgot to mention is that wire wheels hate salt. And salt hates any metal. It gets into everything, most worryingly into both ends of the spokes and will rust out the rim and the hub ends where you can't see it unless you strip the wheels after every event and keep them completely clea...

Re: Rookie Questions
Derek, You may have trouble getting old wire wheels through tech inspection. Get new ones, or better still, just use new steel wheels and Moon discs, that way you can use tyres without needing to use tubes and rust bands (the rubber sleeve that stops the spokes puncturing the tube). V or Z speed rat...

Re: How to be a Good Starter
Well, here we are again, getting excited about another Speedweek. It's only about six weeks away and nobody has put their hand up to be the Chief Starter yet. If you've been there before you'll have a pretty good idea what the job involves and if you aren't competing this year you really should seri...

Re: 28/1/18 QLD BIKE TECH
Wouldn't miss it for quids ! I will also be looking for people to help run the start lines properly. I don't know who will be the starters this year but we need people who can run the show just a half a day at a time. The job is easy. See you on Sunday.

Re: Car Entrants
Thanks Chris, that makes sense. If I can ever afford the J/BFS I have planned I'll make sure it includes such enhancements. I'll also need to clear out the shed again!

What are "Fire doors in Special Construction vehicles"? I don't remember reading anything about these in the rule book.

Re: DLRA Speed Week 2018 Volunteers
Actually Paul, we are looking for replacement starters for both tracks, Pete and I have given it away. We're looking for enough good volunteers to be able to have both the jobs shared so that our replacements don't have to do the whole week without a break. As I said earlier, one of the reasons we w...

Re: DLRA Speed Week 2018 Volunteers
Tony, Some days I think I'd like to be coming back next year, others not so much. We're over camping in abject squalor, I need the Lotto pixies to smile upon me so I can get a luxurious caravan and a Silverado to tow it! Pete likes to joke that he'd have to be flown right to the lake in a King Air t...

Re: DLRA Speed Week 2018 Volunteers
Cookey, The build quality of your lakester is exemplary, and I presume the engine is also bulletproof, so it would be unkind of me to suggest you run one of the start lines after the engine blows up! Maybe you could take a morning or afternoon off once you've done a personal best and feel you can sp...

Re: DLRA Speed Week 2018 Volunteers
One of the reasons Pete and I have relinquished our start line jobs is the toll it takes on our health. By the end of the week we are absolutely wrecked and it takes a week or more for us to feel right again after we get home. We are both 60 something now and we feel it would be dangerous for us to ...
