Well just got back from Lake Gairdner (4:30 cdst), like I said some guys worry to much about nothing. The Lake is dry, so Dr G I didn't get to moon the water, there was none. There was areas of off white were water had been recently. The ramp has got a crust on it but is soft in areas, out to about 150 metres. Out at the 500 metre mark from the canteen it is very firm underfoot , and would withstand a vehicle. Out from this area north, south and west there was nothing but salt crystals. However in saying that the lake hasn't taken on that bright white appearance yet YET,rather white and shades of grey (evidence of previous water). A week from now we'll all be wondering what the fuss was about. Now get back to the shed and finish the job.

See ya all soon

Phil
I dont know about the Hiltaba to Iron Knob road but most of the roads that I travelled today other than the short cut track from Wudinna were pretty reasonable there are some quite large wash outs (about a foot deep) in places but they are dry. prior to the last rain out there they had a Highways road crew there doing the road from Mt ive to Iron knob but for a better up date Trevor Beck will be coming through that way next week so he'll be able to update you on the complete road.

The Iron Knob to Hilatba road gets priority for repairs as it is a mail route, luckily for us! Will find out what it's like on the 5th when we go for the inspection. Pete, DLRA #6
