Saltbush Camp Accommodation/ Canteen

Post by Smurf »

The Saltbush campsite, which is over the hill from the canteen, (NOT the DLRA campsite) is run by Mt. Ives station and is a "bush camp". There is a small amenities block of 2 toilets and 2 showers with cold water only. Camp fees are $7.00 per person per night. These fees can be paid for at the "Purple Truck" where you will be issued with a coloured armband. Different coloured armbands apply for the DLRA campsite. Mt Ives station is offering 1 nights free accomodation to campers who bring there own porta-potti or portable shower. As the area is patroled by National Parks there must be no damage to Flora or Fauna and your site must be left clean-no rubbish left behind.
The DLRA campsite is approx. 10 ks from the salt (turn at the water tanks) and has toilets and hot showers plus limited powered sites, and can only be used by people camping at the campsite. Fees are $10.00 per night + one off fee of $10.00 towards fuel to run the generator or $60.00 for the week (inc. fuel). Please pay these feese at the DLRA campsite to receive your armband. This area must be left clean also ,no rubbish left behind. Spectators will also have to have an armband which is $25.00 inc. a programme. Spectator armbands will be available at the entrance to the Lake. To access the lake you must have 2 armbands.
The Canteen will be running again but as the station no longer gets a regular mail run (use to deliver the fresh supplies) the staff will now have to drive to Pt. Augusta to get the supplies so the 2 course meal at night will go up approx. $1.50 to $16.50 to cover the extra cost. The Holden Pie van will be also be back on the lake with food and they are hoping to have a second van up and running to feed us all. As of 2pm today 10/3 the station has only has 12ml of rain over the last 3 days - none yesterday and none today and getting warmer for the rest of the week, so see you all at the Lake.
