Hi Everyone,
Well spoken with Mt Ives and there has been no substancial rain for many months. Also have spoken with DEHR who have also confirmed that the lake is dry (at the moment) The ramp is in great condition with a great cover of salt, as it was prior to earlier this year. Dr Scott has done a fly over last month and the footage looking very promising. With Christmas nearing, several DLRA members will be embarking on the lake for the annual working bee and bonding sessions, so looking forward to the feedback on the condition.
See you all soon

Re: Lake condition and forecast
Was there last week, and wrote this in another area
the salt was great when Kim got there, wet by the next day (when i arrived ) after a shower, but dried quick
Surface is realy good, we were filming an advertisement , and could run on the raw salt , North West of were we were was more rough
i think we were about 1-200m on the canteen side of the track , and the track may get onto the rougher salt , esp about the 1.5 mile or so
Will need looking at prior to the meeting
Although there had not been any rain before we arrived for a couple of months, the salt still was damp (rub your foot to get paste ), ground water is obviously not far away
but that is fine as far as i'm concerned, Bonneville is like that every yr
A FYI about the film crews washing vehicles at the ramp
the washing is done and or supervised by Mt Ive personnel, right where we blow down, the water used is not much in volume, (couple of thousand litres) and barely made it to the lake surface after 2 days and roughly 14 wash downs, it ran to the south of the ramp not straight down
only area i had concerns with is where a bit of dirt shows through about 100m off the shore , looks like it could a sand bank under there and my comments at the time were for the vehicles to not follow each others tracks , barely marked it and everywhere else you could barely even see where a vehicle had been ,

Thanks Greg.
Now that I have moved, which makes it a little harder to get out there, I am relying on others so thanks again

Thanks for the update there Greg, much appreciated.
I hope the rain and storms we are getting in the ACT are a million miles away from the salt surface.

Re: Lake condition and forecast
Just had a phone call from Cled at the DLRA camp. Currently 30° with a slight breeze. Salt is in perfect condition with good coverage at the ramp. At this stage everything is looking ideal for Speed Week.
Camp has been inspected and is also in good condition.

Re: Lake condition and forecast
Hey all,
I did a recon flight up to the Lake on Wednesday 9th January 2013.
The Lake is looking absolutely fantastic. Smooth. VERY dry. Salt to the very edges. The only problem I had is that someone had cut up the Lake under the ramp pretty bloody badly. I don't recall it being like this when I went over just before Christmas, and would be interested to know how the working bee crew found it.
Pics are available here - multiple of the Lake, one of the ramp, then one of the Member's Camp and Mt Ive Station.

I will do more flights - especially if we happen to have any weather come through.
Keep well all..... see you all very shortly......

Re: Lake condition and forecast
G'day all,
Went for a well overdue flight over the Lake on Sunday. For context - we had about 10mm of rain just over a week ago.
There is water on the Lake, as expected, but the three photos I post are of interest in showing the recovery since we have been there. The tracks are completely gone and there are only a few marks from the pits remaining. The only evidence of us being there is the cut-up track onto the Lake, but thats not a surprise.
Enjoy!
