If my understanding from attending previous years is correct it doesn't need a foot of evaporation if the wind pushes the water somewhere else further up the lake for us. Just a bit of sun & the right wind direction to keep it there.

I'm planning on getting there for a couple of days early in the week. Be good to catch up with a few people. Looking forward to it.

About 12mm at Nonning from this front, forecast looks good & dry. :)
If anything it's put a bit of moisture in the road that will help it stand up to traffic a bit better.

We had 51mm in Stirling North yesterday which is the only rain we've had. Looks like there was less rain west of Pt Augusta, maybe 30mm out the lake way. It was a lot wetter further north though, Leigh Creek has had 200mm in the last 4 days.
It'll be back to the 30's next week which will dry it all out in a day or 2.

Currently looking clear out in the Gawler Ranges and no rain recorded at Nonning this morning. :D :D :D :D
Will be monitoring it closely and plan to go in as soon as is practical for a look at the lake.

The road closures are precautionary to protect them from damage .
The road closures are because of the rainfall north of Mt Ive ,and to protect the road to Hitaba . It really peaves the newtons that the road closure signage is at the turn off from Iron Knob , and not at their station turn off thus stopping vehicles continuing north , and thus alowing people to travel into them and the other station owners. They have lobbied the government agencies about this as it happens a lot and the road from Iron Knob to them is usually OK .

This weekend's lake inspection has been cancelled due to road closures. We are planning to go up late next week, that way we will get a better idea of road conditions etc as well as how the lake surface is looking. Cheers, Pete DLRA #6.

Looking at the BOM site, the lake area has been on the periphery of the rain band, so the gauges at Nonning haven't registered any big totals.
It will clear this weekend, and by Friday it will be 30 degrees with 15 - 25kph wnds each day, so I'm optimistic.

(I was also optimistic last year, but we won't go there. :? )

G'day all,

Airborne recconnaissance of the lake done today.

It is wet. Really wet. Difficult to tell from the air, but probably 2-6 inches of water over the entire racing area. Not only that, the water has washed a lot of salt from the shoreline - it was there a week ago when I flew over.

Have hope - forecast is for sunny and warm for at least the next week.

The YouTube video of the flight is uploading and I will post the link when it is done. My next recce flight will be Friday arvo.

Have fun,
Scott
