Very nice work. Good mix of bikes and cars. Ive watched about 10 times and have sent it to 10,000 others. LOL You really captured the event.

As most people who visited the start line would know, my brother Peter and I worked there for the week. Pete was on the radio and I was doing the marshalling. With some training from Chris Hanlon we managed, for the most part, to always have someone ready to go within seconds of getting the all-clear from Cookey in the timing van.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, racers and crews, for their cooperation and cheerfulness every day. It really made the job a pleasure. Thanks also to the volunteers who helped out when Chris was away trying to get other things done. We'll be back next year and expect to be better organised in regards to gridding up the competitors in their proper running order and being able to answer all the questions about the timing system, the return roads and the exits that we were often asked.

One more thing. Because of the oppressive heat, many drivers were understandably reluctant to get into their cars until the last minute. This caused delays that we would like to see avoided, as much as possible, in 2014. Trevor Clare (streamliner 139) showed me how he gets around the problem. He uses a small cordless variable speed Makita blower (code number BUB182) to keep a strong breeze blowing over him when he's in the car. Others used cool suits, small fans on their dashboards, hand held water sprayers or big umbrellas and open doors. Rod Hadfield had a very large reflective cover for the cabin. Please give some thought over the next 11 months as to how your driver could be made more comfortable waiting in the car, ready to go.

Cheers
Dave :D

P.S. Special mention goes to Grant Schlein for his deliberately spectacular takeoff from the line on Friday, he was still wheelspinning furiously as he disappeared over the horizon :D !

No Paul, that's the GPS course. Mind you, shaving was very low on my list of priorities that week so I did start to look a bit woolly by Friday. That's Dave Bolger on the far right, I didn't meet the other guys and I didn't see any of the GPS course runs. I did manage to get my whizzbang shower/ensuite(!) up by Wednesday. It didn't work very well at all because I'd forgotten about the strong winds every night, maybe the Mk11 version will be better :?

Grant would have to be one of the funniest and happiest blokes I've ever met.

Cheers

Brett came off after eclipsing the first mile at 240, other than a couple of grazes and some bruising he's back to his old self.

Thanks for the update Rob, much appreciated. That's a relief.
240 is pretty neat for a 35 yr old bike (albeit modified). Here's hoping his bike fared as well as he did, I look forward to seing him ride it even faster again.
