Like the graph Dave, especially the red squares above the blue diamonds.

This is exactly what we have planned to do given the available conditions. We have already confirmed that we have the equipment necessary to do this and Paul is making up the extra lead required. But if there is an incident on track 1, Paul will be taking gear from track 2. So some abilities may be lost.
As documented in the January General Meeting Minutes and the February Committee Meeting Minutes

Dave's already volunteered for timing duty on the Monday, how about you oskarjay?

Thanks for those times Greg, it looks like 0730 until 1900 would be the best we could hope for. And that would be two or three hours a day more running than we get now. Over the whole week that's effectively another day's worth of runs. As you know it is broad daylight well before the sun comes up over the canteen hill. If we ran from 0800 to 1830 we'd have time to get ready and still be ready at the start line for the timing people to give us the all clear. If last run is 1830 that last competitor could be packed up and off the lake by sundown. Then we could get to the canteen for a decent feed, a drink and watch the serenity!

If the track 2 timing gear is pinched to run track 1 are we bringing the club's GPS units as a backup?

And for those competitors wanting to maximise their number of runs, get to the start line early and keep going round and round all day.

Only a month to go  !

Cheers
Dave

To clarify the actions to be taken if we have any gear fail or get taken out we've been working on contingency planning. So we've come up with Plans A, B, and C for Track 2 to keep Track 1 running as well as possible.

Plan A - We time over a full mile for Track 2. The course will be longer than it use to be to allow for this. This gives a direct comparison with Track 1 so no need to use Track 1 if you run under 175mph.

Plan B - If the salt conditions do not allow for a full mile of timed track on Track 2, then we will place the lights a quarter mile apart. This is what made up the short course on Track 1 and will still be in place on Track 1 as well.

Plan C - If a light or chronoprinter setup fails then we will reduce the timed distance to 132 feet (or 1/10 mile = 40.2metres) as we can run 2 lights off the one chronoprinter and I can make up some timing light leads with 2 x 25m extension cords.

Plan D - we didn't really discuss Plan D but it could happen. If we lost a few bits of gear then we would work it out on the day but options include:
- take out the qtr mile lights on Track 1.
- take out a mile section on Track 1.
- revert to GPS on Track 2 and record runs go to Track 1.
- All timed runs on Track 1 and just practice runs (happy laps) on Track 2.

Chris

I'm in IT. We live and die by problem management, contingency planning and disaster recovery. I'm good in a crisis.

Paul,

Sounds like it's pretty much under control. 132 ft is a tenth of a quarter mile. A tenth of a mile is 528 ft. "Wow, that 50cc bike just went 200mph on a 50mph record!"

Cheers
