Well..... the Lake is dry.

There is a tiny amount of water well to the south, and an area of standing water a few miles north of Alcatraz, but the racing surface is dry and looking good.

Pictures in links......

Approaching Lake from DLRA camp

About main track 5-6 mile, looking towards canteen

About pit area, looking towards canteen

Thanx Scott, nice work.

Yep can still see tracks from last year at on ramp but with the New Moon it might be harder too.

Thanks for the pics Doc :D
Wetter than i would have liked but still a couple of weeks to dry till racing

Those tracks on the south side of the ramp are not ours, they were relatively fresh at the xmas working bee
all from dual axle vehicles /vehicle
Our last yr tracks were much more healed from winter wetting , quite an obvious difference between the 2

Regarding the condition of the ramp area, I think that we should look at giving the area a light scrape at the end of the racing.
Use a lighter weight beam that could be towed around with a 4WD to knock the edges off the tire ruts as the salt tends to grow on anything like this that sits above the surface.

Well guys, all the best and have a fantastic Speedweek 2016. Kathy and I will not be there, we will be stepping on the ice in Antarctica for 2 weeks when you are stepping on the salt.

Please keep it safe, and respect the officials, the Fire and Rescue crew, the Doc and his incredible crew and all the volunteers helping run the event.
What they say goes, they all have your best interests at heart and ALL hold there positions for good reason.

Finally if Trent Clare makes it give him a big Bear hug for us, be rough as you like cause we know he is bloody tough. :).

We will be back racing and helping out 2017.
Race fast and safe and break some records.

Chris and Kathryn Hanlon.

That thought was going thru my head all day at work Cookey

Just had a call from Michael Brixton who has made an inspection of Lake Gairdner this afternoon, conditions are better than last year. Speed Week 2016 is confirmed. See you on the salt!

The ramp area was so soft at the end of the week last year that anything with an edge would have sunk and gouged great big trenches. I think we'd be better off with a very large flat surface with a raised edge at the front. Weigh it down with whatever (half a dozen people?) and it should do a much better job of smoothing out the ruts.
