Does a time set on tarmac still count as a land speed record

Post by colbourne »

Does a time set on tarmac still count as a land speed record ?

As there will be better grip compared with salt, would the records count on a tarmac surface. I thought it might have be a natural surface such as salt, sand or even ice.

As we have had this years event cancelled I am sure we could find a section of road or a runway that could be closed for a few hours a day as an alternative venue.
Are there any beaches that have been used in Australia ?

Looking forward to next year

NO

Your assuming that the grip would be better.
Each location has it's own set of records, eg. Bonneville, El Mirage, Muroc as each has it's own unique set of conditions

Short answer, NO

Long answer, show me another location which is dead flat, at least nine miles long and a track width of 80 feet with appropriate run off on either side. Then there's room for pits (was nearly a mile long last year), accomodation etc., etc.
Keep the shiney side up........

Has any one thought about a track on Lake George near Canberra.

I know the kite buggies use this as is.

Probably too soft for high speeds currently but it could be improved.
Has anyone set a record there yet ?

Would be very convenient for Sydney !!!

I was in a bar one afternoon with a mate and some guy come up and starts dribbling shite about this and that, my mate stops him and asks if he could wait a minute, then he gets 2 beers coasters and cuts holes in the centre and writes a message on the outside of the holes, he then pushes his ears thru the holes in the coaster and tell idiot he may proceed, When i looked at what was written on the coaster i couldn't stop laughing, He'd written ACME BULLSHIT DEFLECTOR...man if it was only true you would sell a million,

Bob, the filter is easy to construct.

1. a 240v power outlet.
2. 2 sewing needles.
3. a sign that reads 'rest tongue here'

I'm guessing you could figure out the basic construction. Ian.
