A law now being enforced here.

As of now the Australian Government have decided to restrict the importation of modified cars built prior to 1989!! original or restored vehicles are exempt, however if the car was modified before 1989 and you can prove it, it will be allowed in but if it was modified after 1989 it will not be allowed in!

Here is a release from the ASRF(Australian Street Rod Federation) on the matter -

http://www.asrf.org.au/docs/Import-Bulletin-001.pdf

and further pages on the HAMB forum -

I am also told this goes for cars imported for race only purposes.

Not sure how they can enforce this for racing purposes. Why block cars that have no intention of being registered?

But yes it's a shit situation for hot rodders and street machiners.

rule 5.10 relates to circuit cars, but yes you will have to be prepared. the fine print tounge in cheek is you cant import falcon or holdens or jap bonneville cars.

I read a few of the linked documents and it does say as an example, that it includes a passenger car modified for drag racing.

I can't fathom their reasoning on that lot and given a street rod would have to be engineered and blue slipped before rego anyhow....

You can import the parts and build it here but not import the finished product.

I'm glad I'm not in the import game any more, that makes it damn near impossible to import a car on a short trip to the US.

Penny,

You're quite right about that.

I have been looking into this over recent weeks and there is a lot of other behind the scenes work going on at present.

Cheers,

Wise words. I have not been to a DLRA meeting for some time so I hope the DLRA are investigating. I am aware many other groups are looking into this. I did post it for information only.

What was posted on Oz Rodders  as I am not a member of that forum :?:
