New Accounts

I have temporarily disabled registrations for this forum.
The number of new genuine applications (1 or 2 a month) versus those bogus ones (40 per day) made this no longer an option.
I have to manually check each new application and it's just waisting my time offering this service for these morons to stuff it up.

If someone genuinely wishes to join the forum they can contact me ( drylakesracersau@hotmail.com ) and I will sign them up.

A wise move Greg. I am sure most of us here do not realise just how much time is wasted by scammers sadly we see more of it every day not just on the net but by phone as well.

Cheers,

I've used a couple of different techniques with some success on phpBB, feel free to give me a shout if you want some help with the forums.

I use Stop Forum Spam & Stop Spammer both are open source and are able to be uploaded via your forum admin panel package manager (or the phpBB equivalent).
Makes life as an admin much easier, once installed you will see a dramatic decline in spam registrations to Zero and an increase in genuine registrations because people don't need to send emails etc. etc.

Ash.

Alright User Registrations are back, with new protection.
When you go to register now instead of having to type in the characters shown in a box (CAPTCHA), you will be asked one of a series of questions that I have configured.
These are unique to salt lakes racing and anyone who has a genuine interest should be able to answer these questions.
New registrations will self activate, so the whole process should be automatic and much quicker for these new members.
This method is I'm told very successfull at stopping spammers at making autobot registrations. (Fingers crossed)

Well our Eastern Block Friends are back. Been getting lots of bogus registrations over the last couple of days so I've been forced to go back to admin approval for new users until further notice.

There are a lot of ways to get around spam.

Back in 2011, I started to get interested in LSR. A search led me here, or at least to the the DLRA web site. I was interested in becoming part of the community, but forum registrations where on hold as they are now.

I sent my first request for consideration as a member of the forum back in Aug on the 31st. It was a long and drawn out process.

Edit: Deleted as no longer relevant.

Hi Ralph,

In Gregs defense as fast as I could report the spam yesterday they kept posting it. Nothing they pasted was DLRA related. You have posted now and a member of the forum so can we just say it is unfortunate that you have been caught up with spam registrations. So many forums get spammed with porn and rubbish so what Greg does to keep this crap out and I will add as a DLRA member as he is not paid to run the forum is very important.

The DLRA is all run by members with the same interest so if you have an issue be patient as I am sure some one wil get back to you and if have have a problem or an issue members here on the forum will only be happy to help you as we all share the same interest.

DLRA 112.

Greg has a job and work and has also been away with his family. If you want to be rude about it then go ahead but you will not be made welcome if you do not try to see it both ways.

Consider spam like unwanted phone calls. Do you ever get them calling you ? . Again it is sad you got mixed up with the joining details but Greg cancels 40 members a day that try to spam the forum and then out of all those about 3 legitimate interested members a week that want to participate in this forum and what it is about.

If you want new participants, you should act in that way. Why was I ignored for four months?
Have you been to any of the DLRA meeting held in Melbourne ? If not that would be a good way to join, You can make other contact with the DLRA and not just via the forum. Again try to understand what happened with the forum and spammers as they are ruining what we have not just for you joining in on the forum but for those already on the forum.

Racing on the salt you realy only compete with the clock and your own class.
rgn wrote:I'm going to buy a Hayabusa, if I'm allowed to join the organisation...
Do you have plans to race it on the salt ?
