Welcome to the forum Rick. I hope you make it to Bonneville and post some photos when you can. I also hope that you use punctuation in all your future posts. I'd settle for full stops :D!

Cheers

Thanks Dave for the welcome I will try and work on the spelling and punctuation but schooling was not my forte.

Thanks to you also Gary from Canberra for your welcome. I have in the back of my head to have a go at a belly tank just for a bit of fun.

So far I have been unable to find where the rules and specifications for a build to have a go on the salt.

Are the rules or guidelines available on this forum?

Cheers Rick

Rick,
You've used forte in context so you'll do just fine :D

You can download the rule book from this website. Go to "About the DLRA" and you'll see "DLRA Rule Book". Open that, hit the download button and before you know it you'll be an expert! You should also check out the build diaries on this forum and also on www.landracing.com. After you've absorbed most of that you'll be in a much better position to know how to build a car to an acceptable standard. There are millions of other things you'll find on the web. Google "lakester", especially the images page and you'll be reading for weeks. Once you've done most of that feel free to ask questions here, there are plenty of people who will be glad to help.

A few tips to start with: Don't just build it from the stuff you already have lying around the shed and don't reinvent the wheel. If a part is right for the job and available commercially buy it, don't make it, it will save time and aggravation and probably money in the end. Get a few mates to help, as Dr Goggles once told me, trying to do it on your own will break your bank account and your spirit long before the build is finished. One last thing, find a nice double shed to build it in.

Cheers

Rick,
I pretty well agree with David except for the bit about stuff lying around the shed. I have built my life around keeping stuff just in case it could come in handy and over 50 years you collect a lot of stuff. The exhilaration of being able to use some scrap off-cut from a diff housing/waterpump/axle etc etc etc is much greater than walking into a shop and buying it. It is the final justification when the missus whines about all that 'rubbish' lying around the shed/paddock/garage. Don't deny yourself that opportunity. That rubbish is worth its weight in gold.
I just hope my car doesn't appear too 'agricultural' when it is finally unveiled at Speed Week THIS YEAR!!!.

Hi Big Gaz
I'm with you on keeping stuff that might come in handy on day, I have quite a collection as I use to drive a skip truck and being the original bower bird I kept anything that I thought might come in handy one day.
Your car sounds interesting what have you built ?
After reading the rules it might be wise for me to attend speed week first and see what is allowed and what is not before I go off half cocked and build something that would never pass the scrutineers.
I see that there may be an event held in North East Victoria and only about eight hours away from Canberra so I will be keeping a close eye on this as I would love to be there for it.

Big Gaz's Shaguar can be called a lot of things, Awesome is more appropriate than Agricultural.

Look for Shaguar in Build Diaries.

Gaz,
Your shed is like Aladdin's cave. I've seen some of your stuff in the background of the Shaguar photos, it isn't junk :). There's stuff tucked away there that I would sell my grandmother for! I've got a bit of stuff too but none of it is any good for a salt car. I was thinking more about the problems involved in using all of a small collection of unrelated bits and pieces to ultimately produce a car that is ugly, badly compromised, slow and worst of all, gets you hot under the collar at scrutineering  !

Cheers

Now that is art!
The dyno run brought to light a few issues so I got the extra Magnafuel 750 EFI fuel pump from the US last week along with an MSD crank trigger (for a Winsdor which I have modified). The cam sensor is being machined up this week end so I will have a Ref and Sync signal to the MoTec rather than the 60 minus 2 two chopper wheel I used in the '80's. This should give much more stable timing. All the fire lines look good. I used about 60 feet of 1/4" stainless line and about 12 nozzles. I am still thinking about putting one in the boot.I have just about worn out my flaring tool, if not my delicate hands. I am also putting in a fuel level indicator into the tank as well as a fuel temp sensor. Two fuel pumps mean I need two -10 non return valves and two extra fuel pressure sensors into the MoTec so I can tell if one pump is failing or blocked. The digital Club Dash has 8mb of logging as well as a GPS so along with the hall effect wheel speed sensor I have put into the rear wheel I can get ground speed and wheel speed. From that the computer can determine % wheel slip as well as gear position (using rpm). I am so excited about the car finally making its debut after 7 years. If it doesn't go at least it will look good!
