Brolga breeding wetlands in northern Victoria (e.g. One Tree and Two Tree Swamps, Corop) and southern New South Wales (e.g. Native Dog Swamp, Savernake; Lake Cullival, Urana) regularly support the world’s most threatened bittern – the Australasian Bittern – which was recorded at more than a third of 32 Brolga breeding sites in northern Victoria and southern New South Wales in 2000 (Herring 2001).
What about nearby Lake Urana which look to be much bigger?

You missed the part where I mentioned it earlier mate, response attached below.
You'd have to expect that the brolga breeding season could be worked around with scheduling.

Hmmm it seems like our biggest problem is some poor defenceless creature may be made to feel slightly anxious at our presence. Don't get me wrong I love animals, they're delicious, but at least Cullival doesn't seem to appear on any recent reports or council documents relating to conservation.
If the brolga breeding season is an issue then I agree with Rob, it is worth trying to work around it. From the limited info I have been able to find about the lake it seems it very rarely contains water which would suggest it very rarely contains water birds. I'm no ornithologist but that seems right to me...

Just spoke to my mate who owns a pub in Lockart. Lake Cullival is privately owned & he will get back to me with the owners details. Bad news is that it is currently totally under water (5 feet deep in the middle). Good news is they are pulling yabbies the size of long neck beer bottles out of it. Maybe we could swap some of the blue swimmer crabs from Lake Gairdner for a feed of yabbies.

Learmonth near Exmouth has a 10,000ft runway. It's a pretty quiet airport too.

The V8 Supercars use Air Force facilities to test? Why not DLRA?

DLRA cannot use military sites for "security" reasons. It does seem to be who you know & how much you can pay.
