SCOTT GUTHRIE, New Member Introducing Himself.

Post by Scott Guthrie »

Hello, Friends - I am happy to be a new member of the Board. Although I have never raced cars or bikes in Oz, I have raced “down under.” I was a member of the USA Masters swimming team that "won" the 1988 World Masters Swimming Meet in Brisbane in about 1988. That was my only trip to Oz, and my wife and I can't wait to come back! If you read http://www.usms.org/swimgold/sto/guh44bk.htm , you will see that I enjoy Swimming, too.

I am currently 60 years old, and quite proud to still be doing so well in all forms of racing. I was pleased to set the (since broken) record for the World’s Fastest Street Bike in Goliad, Texas last August at 251.148 MPH. ( I was 59.75 years old at the time) That effort was mentioned in http://www.amaprostar.com/press_release ... ecord1.asp , and is the current motorcycle track record at http://www.texasmile.com/ I am the “short” motorcycle rider on the masthead. Rich Yancy, the builder and owner is the taller of the two of us. Rich was the track record holder when I made my record runs.

If you visit www.ecta-lsr.com , you will find my name in the records section for cars and bike, as well as in the 200 Club section. I also hold (and have held) car and bike records at Bonneville: www.scta-bni.org

I've been active in Land Speed Racing since 1972, and am still racing actively today. In June, I was “fast vehicle” at the Maxton meet, with 227 MPH on one of my turbo Hayabusas. The run immediately before, I set a record over 201 MPH in a “loaned” car. I do cars and bikes, although at present the bikes take more of my interest.

You might enjoy reading: http://www.superstreetbike.com/features ... 44_200mph/ to see how we are helping “new” riders. I am just trying to give a little back to the sport, after all these wonderful years.

I enjoy many of the historical aspects of the sport, and often publish a little here and there, such as http://www.suzukihayabusa.org/phpbb/vie ... hp?t=51171 , which is about the World’s 50 fastest open-wheel bike records.

I am currently working on a new thread to be initially published RIGHT HERE, as a special gesture to my “new friends,” which is http://www.dlra.org.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212

Thanks for making me feel welcome!

Scott
