At the grand age of 86 Russell Wright , the 1955 official outright land speed motorcycle record holder (297.97 kph )
last night , passed through this life......................
His last visted to the salt was to Lake Gairdner as a spectator a few years back..

A gentleman to the end ....

Sad news indeed, he set too and achieved his dreams,, i had the pleasure to talk with him on Gairdner when he attended to watch Mike Akatiff run the liner, a very humble man and it was a inspiration to hear his story,,,

It was 2006 when Russel and a couple of his Kiwi freinds joined us on the salt at Lake Gairdner.
He was so happy to meet Sam wheeler and the American crew of Ack Attack as they where to meet him . Two motrorcycle landspeed record holders from different era,s , meeting on the salt . Very special.
Russel was a humble man , with a good sense of humor , a hero to many in the vincent world . His World record run was an amazing acheivement considering it was done on a tree lined road in the South Island of New Zealand .
