Log Books

Post by Mossy »

Am I right in thinking a log book will be issued when the bike gets scrutineered at the lake?

I'll try and give you a run down of what happens with entries, tech inspection etc. This is the way it has run in the past, but with the possibility of tech inspection on the Friday, it could all change.
Usually registration and tech inspection starts Saturday morning once all the tents are set up and things are in place.
The registration caravan is set up roughly in the middle of the pits out on the lake with the tech inspection bays usually right next door.

You go to registration first.
1. Line up
Go to the registration Caravan
If you are a member and have pre-entered their will be a line for you.
New members / new entries will be a different line especially for the first day (because they take longer to process, you have to fill out forms etc.).

2. Entry Form
You will be asked for your member number.
The entry form will be checked to make sure it is complete, if it isn't it will be given back to you for you to go away and complete. Then you join the back of the queue and start again.

3. Payment
If it is complete, it will be checked to make sure you have paid your entry fee ($275)and annual $25 membership fee.
Late entries and new members will be expected to pay these fees at this time. (plus another $150)
NOTE: Bring cash with you, no EFTPos out here!

4. Licence and Log Book
You will then be asked to produce your DLRA License and DLRA Vehicle Log Book and these will be checked.
If you are a new entrant or presenting a new vehicle, a new License or log book will be issued to you. (no additional cost)
Replacement Log Books are $100 each.

5. Technical Inspection Form
Only once you have completed all the above steps you will be issued with a Technical Inspection Form for your vehicle.
Fill this out with all your details where appropriate.
You will also be given Pit Pass armbands for you and up to 4 of your team. Put these on straight away and do not take them off till Friday.
You take this form along with your License, Log Book and queue up for Technical Inspection.

6. Technical Inspection
Note: there are different lanes for cars and motorcycles and there may be multiple lanes of each.
When you queue up for technical inspection it will be with your vehicle in it's race ready form, all your safety gear and your paperwork.
As well as vehicle inspection all your gear will be checked at this time as well, including race suit, helmet, visor, gloves, boots, under garments.
For car guys, Bob Ellis has prepared these Technical Inspection Guidelines, please take the time to read them.
If you have a push car or support vehicle it will also be checked at this time as well. These vehicles must have a CB (UHF) radio fitted, an extinguisher, a flashing light on the roof, a spill kit including square mouth shovel, a couple of tarps (for the race vehicle and the support vehicle), garbage bags, rags etc for clean up.
Once you have passed tech inspection you will be issued with a sticker to affix to your vehicle.
You will also be issued with a sticker for your helmet.
These stickers are the first thing the pre-stage and/or start line officials will check when you present there.

HINT: You can also pay your DLRA Camp camping fees while your at registration. You will receive an armband, put this on straight away.

Well that's a pretty good start. Hope this helps.

PS This is a time when entrants will naturally be on edge, but it is still no excuse for rude or aggressive behavior. Please be nice to all the officials, these people are all volunteers, some will be experienced whilst others will be doing these jobs for the very first time. They are there to help you and make sure you race safely now and for many years to come.

OK, that explains almost everything but does raise one more question.
I'm a member (about 3 years now) and have pre-entered (carried over from last year), but this will be the first time the bike will be at the lake so does that also make me a `new entry' ?
So which line do I queue up in? :D

Mossy you answered your own question.
You are a member.
You have pre entered.
Let's call this line the "near queue".

People who are not members (and want to be) or have not entered prior to the cut-off date of 15th January 2013 (and want to enter) can line up in the "far queue"

Where it does make a difference is with your vehicle. Because it has never been inspected before. It takes the tech inspectors a lot longer to go over a "new" vehicle.
What may happen is that there may be 2 lines. One for new vehicles and one for vehicles that have run before.

Some more info,to add to Gregs posting,

Tech inspection;
There will be a line for new/1st time entries , and another one/two lines for the "oldies",these lines will start some distance back from the tech area, you will be waved into a bay as it becomes available.
Make sure all the paperwork is done before you come into tech,or you will be waved through and will end up at the back of the line. With record entries this year,it will be a very busy time for us,and we do not want to hold up your fellow competitors more than is necessary.
Only the driver/and crew of the vehicle will be allowed in the tech area (with their vehicle),this is so the inspectors have room to work.
The helmet sticker that Greg mentioned ,will be given to the competitor to affix on his/her helmet. The sticker must be placed so the startline staff can easily see it.
Image,
Dont worry, the sticker is not this big,it is about the size of a postage stamp
Image,
This sticker will be used if your vehicle needs to be speed limited for any reason, the speed limit will be written in red.
The 'concern' sticker will be issued for any incident your vehicle is involved in.For example,, a spin,a fire, etc. These stickers MUST stay on your vehicle for the duration of speedweek. If you get three of these, you get one of these red stickers.
Image,
If you get issued with the red sticker, sorry but your week is over. The red stickers can be issued for any MAJOR incident (crash etc). These can also be issued under the ruling 1.L Participant Conduct.
Please note, that we do not want to issue any stickers ,so please be safe and follow the rules and directions of officials.

As mentioned in DLRA's posting," no excuse for rude or aggressive behavior", be nice! Alot of people have worked long and hard to make this event happen,so please show respect to the officials, volunteers, and your fellow competitors.
