Re: Vintage Motorcycle
Wasn't it 2 classes downsizing ?
I remember pitting next to the WLA 750 Harley one year, who run in 500cc, with a 750 SV, athen ripped the rear head off to run in 175cc against the Postie, and what an amazing sight it was to watch the rear piston seem to dissappear @ 1500 rpm

Re: Vintage Motorcycle
This rule is based on the old AMA ruling where-by side valve machines can run a 50% displacement advantage against OHV machines.
This was done because because it was the only way the old handshift, side valve Harleys could remain competitive against the Pommie 500 OHV and OHC, foot shift bikes (along with the rule that once in top you weren't allowed to change down at all in some races) going into the states in the late 40's. And of course when the 650's came on the scene in 1950 it stopped them being used in most races against the Harleys altogether.

Bill Brice #411 M/VG 175 63.649 ,
he managed 106.002 as M/VG500, not bad for a WLA !
I nearly got pinged ! 71 mph on this in '71(Broken Hill's 1st "chopper")
The cop was annoyed that I was so excited to have achieved warp speed, he refused to give me a ticket
