Jet engines, eh? Seems a little old school.
Let's talk about rockets.

Re: Wheels Magazine Thrust Land Speed Article
The problem with rockets is the incredible G forces involved and as mentioned before, the tyre technology just isn't up to it yet.

This article suggests that someone out there is attempting to design and perhaps manufacture 400mph motorcycle tyres. No mention of who it might be though.
Here is a H2O2 rocket powered bike doing the drag strips in the USA which does a low 5 second quarter mile at 249mph. The run starts after 1m50s.

Just imagine how fast these things could go with a bit of room to stretch their legs.
Apart from the speed, they're actually safer than piston engined bikes. No flames. No fires. No moving parts apart from fuel shutoffs and probably cooling pumps for the run time you'd be going for with land speed racing. The only hot things are the combustion chamber and nozzle and even they only run at about 650 degrees C (which is positively chilly for a rocket).
It would be very cool to see something like this running at the lake.

Chris,
If you want rockets you need look no further than Waldo...

I read recently that Goodyear was developing a rear LSR tyre for motorcycles. Presumably they'll do a front as well. That H2O2 bike gets along nicely doesn't it?!
Cheers
Dave

I'll go first, I'll just convert the RGV's Expansion chambers into Pulse Jets, so what Class would that put me into Ross?

Re: Wheels Magazine Thrust Land Speed Article
Richard Brown has done it all. This is a good read.

Everyone with a bike with no motor is now down in the shed looking at it with renewed enthusiasm
Pete, the Nazi V1 pulse jets would do 400mph in level flight but those jets were ten feet long. You might have to build up to it and throw in a couple of solid fuel rockets for the proper catherine wheel effect
Cheers

Hey Dave
Would that make it a RGV1 x 2?

I promise I'll stop this soon, but the more I look, the more interesting stuff I find.
