3.4 Speed Limits
All vehicles will be restricted to a maximum speed of 60 kph while travelling on Lake Gairdner, except
for competition vehicles undertaking approved speed runs on the competition course.
A walking pace speed limit is in place in the pits area.
Speed restriction signs will be displayed on access routes across the lake.

That is from the recently updated Operational Plan.

From my memory (so take this with a grain of salt, you know which kind) there was discussion at the last AGM about the speed of some vehicles through the pits and how they could be slowed down, made safer. This is where the suggestion for all vehicles to be towed came from, and it was taken on board at the AGM.
Then much hue and cry from the bike fraternity about how hard / dangerous it would be to tow a two wheeled vehicle, especially long wheel base streamliners. Several designs of hitches and specialist trailers that would attach a bike to a car were shown and discussed they were never really picked up on, even though our brothers in the States use them all the time.
So it was with some reluctance that the rule was withdrawn, with the proviso that if the speed limit was not strictly adhered to, it would be re-introduced.
So it's walking pace in the pits and 60KPH on the road to the pits and the return roads.
But woe betide the person that stuffs it for every one else, don't let it be you!
Keep the shiney side up........

60 kph or 60 mph on the return road
at 60 kph my clutch would be worn out by the time i got back to the pits and i would be steamed in my leathers

slow speed in the pits i can understand and highly support ,
but the return road is like any other 2 lane road ,including things that seem to be missing on the road these days like drive to conditions , be mindfull of other users
heard all sorts of speeds mentioned lately, but 60kph ......

Greg W & Greg W , (have to do something about this, too many Greg W's,!!) .DLRA Admin, You are correct in with the 60 K max speed on return roads/ startline road etc. And the walking pace (or pushing it!) in the pit area.
Abuse that speed , and chances are EXTREMELY high you will get a RED sticker (which means game over-go home).

Greg Waters , how do you get back from a run at B'ville?? Not by riding your bike.(And not at 60mph! - as the return road limit there is 50 mph!).

Warning to all , The competition course is the LONG track and the SHORT / GPS track . All other areas are NOT the competition course. If you and your race vehicle are involved in an incident off the competition course ( running over some one in the pits for instance-and you are driving / riding that vehicle) , you will be in some big trouble. The same kind as being in an accident in an unregistered/unroadworthy vehicle.NO insurance ,etc. etc.Because we are on a National park , the same rules apply as the highways/streets,we have an exemption for racing on the course. All other vehicles on the lake must be registered or have a S.A govt permit and obey all the current laws.(Including things like riding in the back of utes etc.)

This ( as admin stated),has been discussed and passed over .It will be reintroduced again at the AGM for disscussion, DON'T let it be you that stuffs it up..

Bob
Bubs and Shootout are ride back , 50 mph is reasonable and has been often mentioned here , i even heard it at the last general meeting

WOS is tow back but we use Jims low trailer there not the back of a ute, road conditions getting in dictate our choice somewhat and i dont own a suitable trailer because i have always had a ute

If i were riding in mid summer in town at 60kph the choice of leathers would not include non vented all leather

Actually another thought while were on the matter, what speed are the support vehicles limited to, surely not 60 kph too
car driver would be rather hot and lonely waiting on a tow from the 6 or 7 mile

Can we interprete the return and safety roads being part of the race track and under our rules at 80 kph ?
all other public access areas like the road to the pits from canteen and public viewing i can understand a 60 kph limit with multiple vehicles constantly using it and pushbikes etc

checking my logs from last yr my return road speed was between 47 and 44 mph,
