Code of Conduct

Post by DLRA »

To be able to race at Lake Gairdner is no small undertaking for the DLRA. Firstly there is the South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, they manage the Lake, which is recognised as a National Park by the Australian Government. Then there is the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Commission, they are the traditional owners recognised by the Australian Government. These 2 groups form the Lake Gairdner Co-Management Board.
We require permission from both these organisations to run an event and are required to abide by a number of conditions and a Memorandum of Understanding set out by these organisations that form a Code of Conduct for the DLRA, it's members, spectators and visitors. Failure to comply will result in the DLRA losing our bond for the event, all the way through to refusal to issue future permits. Both these organisations will have monitors at Lake Gairdner during Speed Week, so you should conduct yourself in such a way that you know people are watching. Be aware that if you are asked to do something or even more importantly not do something (and it doesn't matter how small or insignificant it may seem at the time) that there is probably a very good and valid reason behind it.
Many of these conditions revolve around our physical presence at the lake, where we go, what we do. I will detail these in further bulletins. In many aspects success is measured by what we leave behind after the event. The littler the better. If we can leave Lake Gairdner looking like no one has ever been there we will ensure that Speed Week will continue for many years to come.
Keep the shiney side up........
