If you want a longer wheelbase (2850mm VS 2690mm) go to the LS400 rather than the SC400/Soarer. They have a lower CD (0.27 LS vs 0.32 SC) but more frontal area however the CDA equates to the same for both cars. Had I known that I may not have opted for the Soarer but one came up at the right price and I grabbed it. There is more info in my somewhat stale build diary RE the Soarer.
A longer wheelbase offers more stability at speed on the salt.
Build a shape that pleases you or you will never be happy with it. You may want to work out what class that vehicle will slot into first then check the existing records if that is your main aim.
Forget anything you already know about racing, this is a completely different deal and weight is your friend, corner weights matter and your engine needs to sustain/withstand max rpm for something like 2 minutes if you are really hauling the mail.
Go to local meetings, go to scrutineering days and go to at least one event because there's lots to learn/see.
Cheers,
Rob
