My bike takes longer than 2 miles to get to top speed, at present this is under 150 MPH. Is the new track, formally GPS track, going to be extended to 5 miles to allow low power slippery bikes/cars to reach their top speeds?

Obviously there are always exceptions and special needs that need to be investigated individually... generally, if a car or bike can get up to max speed in the 1.75 miles before the timing traps on the GPS course then they can stay there. If they need more room then come on over to the long course.

On the subject of timing gear being on the GPS course, will a record be able to be set there, as in the diagram for the setup of next years speed week the timing area is only shown as 1/4 mile long. For records to be set will this area be increased to the required measured mile. ?

We are happy to run short course if records available.

Kind regards.

Yes - records will be attributed to the former GPS course with the new timing gear but they will be designated as Track 1 or 2 records as are the records on the long course. Again, if there is a need/desire to run a full mile for a record this would be allowed on an exception basis for slower vehicles. Basically we are the DLRA and we can attribute DLRA records any way that suits us - therefore we will have records designated as Track 1 or Track 2 records. In the eyes of the SCTA / DLRA / ECTA or any other timing association - records set on their turf are records set on their turf, if you want a world record you need FIM/FIA sanctioned gear and personnel present.

i for one would like to see the opptunity to run at Gairdner for FIM/FIA records, but realize the costs and logistics involved of doing it at our Speedweek event would be far too prohebitive,,
it would require a stand alone event, the costs(not cheap) of getting FIM/FIA officials to attend/sactioned would have to be shared amoungst those wishing to attempt World Records, also, we need to be able to run, saftly, in either direction,,

Ronnie,

That is something we would also consider running at. The cost maybe high, but so is a trip to the US. I do like the idea of setting a world record on Aussie Salt. So if there is any movement forward here please keep us in the loop.

Lynchy,

Thanks for your reply also, it sure will ease the wait on the long course, especially as it should be a big event being the 25th anniversary.

Kind regards,

JP Afflick

If ever there was a chance at getting FIA/FIM, then this is the year ,
with the wet salt in the US for the whole season,
our 25th with invites going out to previous international entrys
Those that would get best advantage would be like yourself Ronnie, NA bikes , cars and liners making use of the dense air on a much harder track than they get over there

Well there used to be a "STREET CLASS" I think it was called . The max speed allowed was 125 MPH . Safety requirements were a helmet , seatbelt and long sleeves and trousers and covered footwear ( and same safety requirements at the test and tune drags at Willowbank Qld ) . Vehicles were inspected to make sure they were safe . And that was it , just pay your $250 , and away you went for as many runs as you wanted but don't go over 125 mph or else you had no more runs .Well things were a bit more relaxed then and if you went a bit over and behaved and didn't cause any problems , that was cool .
I ran in street class in 2002 , did 8 runs , just got to 125 mph and had a ball and I guess because I was a good boy , the gave me the f/pro record . I was hooked . I then ran in 3 more events in f /pro and f/gc . .
As far as I know there were never any incidents in street class , and I was disappointed when it was dropped . It gave me a chance to sample the salt lake racing world , something that I am so pleased I did .
I believe the class was dropped for so called potential safety issues ( re hypotheticals ), when in reality we never had any problems when the class was operating .
BRING IT BACK PLEASE . the 130 mph club at Bonneville works well .

ps the cotton wool society hasn't caught on completely here in NZ . e.g. don't have to register your boat or even have a boat license , or wear a helmet on a pushbike , they do bungy jumping all over the place , even the Auckland Harbour bridge , try doin that in Sydney whoa . And they all seem to get by ok .

Hello Don :D long time no hear ......yes I remember the "street class" very well and thought it was just bonkers to get rid of it :( ....yes it needs to be revived again that's why I started this thread, sadly to few members use this forum or are just lurkers....so chances are slim.

With regards to the changing attitudes, that's why I intend to retire to SE Asia asap. I'm just totally sick and tired of the utter BS of big brother government here in Aus....enough is enough....and the sad part is it filtering down into every thing we think and do.

Hope you are enjoying NZ

cheers
Gary

not many people die at Sydney Dragway... plenty of 125+ runs there

I could have saved an absolute fortune and would have been able to race in 2009 if there had been a 130mph club like Bonneville. As it is - it's now 2015 and still looks sketchy as to whether I will get my car done in time. :(

The VW 36hp challenge in an SCTA recognised class that falls under the 130mph club rules which as I recall requires only basic safety modifications to be carried out. Fire extinguisher, safety belts etc. The full safety requirements we have here are almost ridiculous by comparison as most of the 36hp classes would struggle to reach even 100mph. (awards are actually given for those joining the '1-club' :) )

The 36hp challenge was created to be a cheap affordable entry into land speed racing - or at least thats how it is in the States. The additional cost required to compete here puts a lot of potential entrants off as the cost of the required for safety modifications more than quadruples the budget required to race. It is no longer a cheap entry into LSR and so the spirit of the challenge is lost.

A few years back there were a potential 15 or more 36hp challenge entrants for Speedweek, only two actually made it and I wouldn't mind betting that this was mostly due to the requirements for full safety equipment that turned most off.

I'm all for a 130mph club, and also behind an Aussie version of the 36hp challenge. Bring it on is what I say!

The Cotton wool brigade currently win.

Saying that we are a democratic club with a rule change facility in place. If you feel strongly about it you will first need to garner support, then do a rule change submission. You will need a lot of support.
I for one have always supported an entry level class with STRICT adherence conditions. We are pricing ourselves out of affordable Motorsport due to the Chicken Little syndrome. There are bugger all new cars being built this year. Even less new entrants.
Are we following ANDRA, CAMS, F1, etc pricing ourselves out of the game?

Time will tell.
Might end up a bike event with a few rich grey headed guys in shiney cars.

its one thing to look at what the racers have, and do at Bonneville, but keep in mind that medical facilitys are "on hand" there,,, we hafe to be mindfull that imediate emergency medical assistance is a cuppla hours (at best) away at the G,,, "safety" is a much greater factor because of this,,,
