Transport from Perth to Lake Gairdner and back

Post by #rakofftothesalt »

G'day, we have a small group of guys heading to speed week from WA and are wondering if there is any group transport organised from WA to SA?
Seats on a bus or convoy of vehicles or spare seats in vehicles?

Just trying to consolidate costs for the trip across.

Let us know if you have some ideas.
cheers

Rick

If you put Minnipa into the forum search at top of page it will go to a page I did a few years ago with directions to the lake from WA I would recommend going in from Minnipa as the road In from Wirrulla was crap!!

Thanks Jeff, yeah we are planning to take the Minnipa road as you have suggested, have read your post, will have to pick peoples brains and make sure we get any signage right because I'm really bad at directions. We've heard it is probably too rough for the Camry!!!

Thanks momec3, don't worry we are the ol guys as well, just had a chat to Dplecas, he's one of the young fellas!!

We've had a few chats to likely lads, still tim to plan.
Cheers

Hello guys and girls,
It looks like we may up with a coin toss between the Mazda and the Colorado for the trip across, do we pull a trailer and bring the genset or not is where we are at the moment.
I think we ruled out trying to drive the Camry across after talking to young DPlecas over a beer, something about rough road, river crossings and soft sand, even though the Minipa road is good according to a reliable truck driver who does that run on occasion. Our argument that we could "get a run up", didn't get approval, so if you come across a Camry bogged on the road, don't just say "those bloody tourists", we didn't listen, used poor judgement, please stop and give us a hand.

If ya bring a genset dont camp near me please. :) Had someone last year that had to have a cafe latte at 5:30 every morning. Got a bit annoying to say the least.

Ignorance is bliss.
I can remember a couple of years ago we came across some Japanese tourists on the Mt. Ive Road about 12.30(am) at night in a Rent-a-Bomb Camry on the Mt. Ive Road.
They just thought it would be a good idea to drive out for a look.
No camping gear, they didn't even have any water with them.
We suggested it would be a good idea for them to turn around.

Yep I hear ya, my preferred mode of travel is the 4wd ute with about 40L of water on board [and that doesn't include beer].

The cyclone is going down the coast of WA. It has been downgraded to Category 1.
There is no way that it can affect Lake Gairdner.
The weather for the next week is 35 - 38 degrees with a 20% chance of some sort of rain on Tuesday, that's it.

If you're worried about the weather watch this page - http://www.dlra.org.au/weather.htm
