Hi folks,
I am heading out for a look this year and plan on returning next year as an entrant... I have been reading the rule books and it has left me a little confused as to what class my bike would fit in.

Its a production framed 490cc motocross bike being a 1984 2 stroke Yamaha yz490. I was hoping to run it in standard configuration first year then return with a few modifications the year after to see what I can improve on. being a standard style MX bike will it fit into production class and engine guidelines as I read it should be a registerable bike to enter production class, if this is correct what would I be looking at entering as? thanks for any advice given.

Welcome to Dry Lakes Racing buddy , first thing you require is a rule book , that should help determine what class your bike will fit , then ask away with any enquiries , there are plenty of bike people here that can answer your questions , good luck . cheers Mick

Welcome to the House of Fun

The Forum is a good place to get ideas, but we can only offer suggestions/opinions ....

To actually confirm any of the Rules, contact our Chief Motorcycle Inspector http://www.dlra.org.au/contacts.htm .....

What you are doing is the best way to approach our Sport, have a look first .... It is unlike any other Motorsport on so many levels ....

Make sure you read the Info on what you need to do/bring/prepare yourself for when coming to Speedweek for the first time ....

http://www.dlra.org.au/spectators.htm

Then come to Speedweek and wander round, check out the variations on the Theme, ask questions, but mainly, enjoy the Experience .....

Go home and have a think .....

Hope to catch up with you at Lake G

Pete

Hi Deni Dave

Again check with Graham to confirm---
Factory MXers are Modified as long as the bike was available to the public--- it was
Engine class is 500
You can enter in Fuel or Gas(petrol) race gas is ok
SO---- MG-500.
You will need tyres that are speed rated to over 120mph The current record is 121 for both Fuel and Gas.
Your MX tyres are NOT SUITABLE
Read the rule book for kill switch, lock wire, leathers etc and you will be good to go.
Beware of SALT FEVER ---- it is incurable

Yeah I don't mind a bit of rough bush track riding on the softy though, I'm not one of those polish and not use type riders 👍🏻👍🏻
