Thanks for the support guys :D
Managed to escape Wendover for a few days between events and headed down through Zion and Grand Canyon then onto Vegas before returning to Bonneville for WOS
It was a good idea to go to both the BUB and WOS as the events are run very differently. The WOS event ran like a greased wheel for the whole week. They ran two tracks - one for 130mph club (3 miles) and the other for the fast stuff - 7 miles with the timers at the 3rd, 4th and 5th markers and a flying quarter mile also. The staging was easy - just head out to the line and queue up in an orderly fashion - no lists no stress. The long course was in 2 lines with the up to 5 mile folk in one line and the over 5 mile in the other. When you got to the front whoever was ready ran first. By day two the turnaround between runs was around 3 hours - not bad :)
The busa ran well although the course was slippery in parts. Managed 5 runs over 215mph with a best of 221mph. I think it was the fastest bike time of the meet as there were no streamliners, no John Noonan or Jason McVicar there.
In the end the main issue was traction as we had plenty of hp on tap and insufficient ballast near the rear axle. Good to get the experience of plenty of 200mph+ runs on the salt and experimenting with body positions, wheel slipage etc.
A huge thanks to Mike Ackatiff and crew who provided all the support we needed from when we arrived in San Jose.
The tuning of the bike was perfected, controlled and maintained by Jason Swan from Auckland Performance tuning who showed the Americans that good tuning means you dont break motors. After all those runs at wide open throttle the engine is still crisp.
All up the trip cost close to $10k AUD - including shipping, flights, accommodation, food etc so I probably cant afford 08 :( but will be keen to return to Bonneville in 09 for the same events. :D
