Sumernats Horsepower Hero
Dunno if anyone watched Gasolene on Channel 31 last night.
They have been running a segment on 3 guys attempts at the Sumernats Horsepower Heros. The guy that won (with over 1800 HP!) said in his acceptance speach that he wanted to run at Speed Week and then go to Bonneville. The car was a late model Holden ute, the motor a small block Chev, with the biggest bloody turbos I've ever seen sticking out of the bonnet. Would have been interesting to see that run....

They are local blokes (from Canberra ) they operate national automotive /jakes performance in Mitchell , I know them and have been trying to interest them in salt lake racing , I get all my LSR bikes dyno tuned at jakes performance ,as they they are the only place that would take on the task , they are mad petrol heads , I watched the build progress of that holden ute ,and yes they are big mofo turbos , that ran over 1900hp on their shop dyno using ethanol , they tore out the drive shaft mounts on the first run andf could not back up the second run ,they hope to be the first in Aus to dyno over 2000 hp , the motor is also to be used in a drag car they are building ,which of all things is using a small jap ute body
cheers

2000hp has been done .
This is from a Sportscompact group press release (there is a vid too
2041HP FOR GAS MOTORSPORT 3.2LTR 2JZ!
Yes, you read correctly! In the lead up to Round 1 of the Toyo Tires Sport Compact Group Drag Racing Series, Gas Motorsport have been putting in the Dyno miles. With the tuning help of Phil Laird of Graphic Skills Racing the Gas Team has been cranking out some very impressive horsepower. 2041hp (1522kw) from a turbocharged 3.2Ltr (195cubes) 6 cylinder 2JZ Toyota engine! Anyway you do the maths that's an impressive amount of power.
"With the Gas Motorsport Celica running consistent 6sec passes with the 3Ltr combo from the Camrydore, the time has come to step up game with our 3.2Ltr engine. Cracking the magic 2000hp mark is a great achievement for us all. The challenge for us now is getting all that power to the race track. With the extra horsepower everything changes, including clutch setup, chassis dynamics and so on. I doubt we'll be able to get all the power to the track at Heathcote but we'll certainly give it our best shot" .comments Joe Signorelli of Gas Motorsport.
Needless to say there were traction problems !!!

Bumps are still there, for me the rise in the left lane unloads the rear loosing traction in the top end, and the couple of bumps in the right make for an untidy finish , had the shift light flash sometimes as the wheels leave the deck crossing the finish at ~175
Yoiks!
For those who went to Mangalore some good news mentioned at the DLRA meeting was that it was to be laser leveled at some stage this year. This was the only negative aspect of the event in our mind so good to hear it being fixed.
I watched the Horsepower thingy too. As a backyard builder I can't say I am impressed by owners who just take their cars to mechanics and say do the work so they can claim some kind of glory...
I guess mechanics need these "patrons" to be able to enter and learn how to make it happen so there is some good out of it.
It just seems very odd to me.
Did you see the episode where they hit the back wall with bits of the turbo last year?
Be interesting to see if they can make the horsepower for the miles needed at the big white dyno, rather than a blip on the competition dyno.

I agree with the comments re paying a mechanic and claiming glory. I've never heard anybody thank their engine builder, probably never will. I suppose my attitude stems from my lifetime shortage of megabucks. Still, I've done a lot for almost nothing while so many others have done almost nothing. Would I get my hands dirty if I could afford to pay someone else to? I have paid in the past and been disappointed with the results so I doubt it.

I've met some brave and some silly men .....I dunno if I'd be taking a car with what looks like fifty thousand dollars worth of intercooling out to a salt lake...

Now , Bob therapy won't fix you it will just make you feel better about being sick.
Bob you're definitely not silly ,you drive the best looking car Ford ever made with a Chev motor , that proves it.
It was Ben who brought up the pizzas , ......("jeez can someone let the dog in to clean this up?")
which reminds me of a joke...Two buckets of vomit are walking down the street , one bursts into tears , the other puts his arm around him and says "what's wrong mate?"....he says " you see that alley way over there? , it makes me all sentimental , that's where I was brought up"
12 f*%^&$@#n months of this to go
