The good old days - Speed Week 2005

Post by Brootal »

I finally pulled my finger out made a bit of a web page from visit to the salt in 2005. I figured with all the bad luck we've had the last couple of years, a look back at how nice the lake was in '05 might cheer a few of you up.

CHECK IT!

Good to see you're actually reading and not just looking at the pictures. :)

You should probably change the story next to Lynchy's bellytank picture as well - he's not the fastest ever wheel driven car in Australia - don't forget Campbell on Lake Eyre!

Not that there's anything wrong with the accomplishment!

Yeah, I wondered about that when I was writing. I was pretty sure people were saying he was the first over 300 (without having a rocket/jet strapped to his arse!)

Just did a quick Google search. Looks like DC went 403  , but he was a Pom, so that doesn't count. ;)

...............there's a book about the Lake Eyre record attempt in '64 called "The Dead Lake" and it's a great read I reckon you're gonna to have to go to a library because I pretty sure it ain't in print

Goggles

You can still get them in the shops. If you don't mind paying over the odds at "Borders".

This might be a good spot for these pics my dad took back in 1964. Not certain, but I'm pretty sure this is when Donald Campbell was coming back from Lake Dumbleyung after setting the Water Speed Record.

VERY cool Boris,

Do you know where they were actually taken? From the pics I believe the runabout to be an Everingham but a little hard to be sure.

Cheers,

great stuff boris, i reckon someone could produce a yearly magazine of speedweek to sell in newsagents, they make all those crap mags like street commodore etc, i reckon it would sell. and how about that ducati on page 4, wonder who that is?
