Casino runway

Post by hawkwind racing »

You blokes may want to look at the use of this runway ,it was used for large jets but is not anymore ,only light planes and the local aero club , the runway is in excellent condition ,very smooth and there is a good 1 km to play with and that leaves a further 400 mtrs for braking .
I attended last W/E sadly I only got 2 runs before the gremlins attacked , I had minimum ground clearence (35mm) and no bottoming issues even under brakes .Greg Watters was getting close to 200mph but braking was a bit of an issue at that speed ,bones and evey were both able to get top speed out of there bikes in that distance and stop with no problem .
I believe you should make first contact with the local council who own it ,if you need further info I will try to get it from the organisers of this last W/E event .
to bad its so far away for me to travel for the southeners ,i wait for mangalore
cheers

It was a very smooth runway :D ,
Apparently there were quite a few hoops to jump to get the event happening, local car clubs haven't been successfull in using the area, aero club don't like others using "there runway" ,council complained as they thoght we were only going to use 400m and wanted to charge by the meter??? camping fees rose 4x the original quote , but the facilitys were great, large caravan park alongside the start of the runway, powered sites, kept grass underfoot, cafe with entertaining area(had a band on sat nite)
Track from the start is ok but a permanant fence across at 100m is the border between the caravan park and aero club areas, we had a 100m staging rea after this fence, then the start line, marked out 400m and 900m then a 500m braking area. From 191mph (gps) i had 50 m spare , that was after sitting up immediately and braking HARD... white lines on the runway were a little hazardous both for acceleration and braking.
I'd happily go back , If Mangalore were leveled when resurfaced it would be a better track but couldn't match the facilitys.
Talking to others over the weekend, Glen Innes car club use there local runway,
Gunnedah is also used by locals http://www.google.com/maphp?hl=en&tab=wl&q=.

I make Gunnedah main runway at a tad over 2km using the patented finger method  Not too far from Sydney for a days run either.

Gary/Greg,

What did they have in the way of safety and scrutineering?

Cheers,
Rob

I was giving a hand with the track when that happened but i believe it was a simple safety check, brakes working ,tires reasonable condition, pressures ok ,chains in reasonable condition and adjusted .full leathers.
