here is an idea on stopping time assuming someone achieves 200 mph at the end of the timed KM , you are traveling at aprox 90 mtrs per second (200mph) you flash past the timer ,allowing 1sec reaction time ,making sure you have not started to brake untill after the timer and then start to apply the brakes , 90 mtrs have now been used up of the 600 mtrs .that leaves 510 mtrs to stop in a time of 5.6 seconds  possible but no room for any error , what arrangements will be made if any to stop runaway vehicles ?
Will be interesting to see who runs the first 200 :)
cheers

At 200mph your going to be at the grass in 5.6 seconds, applying the skidders at the finish line will increase the stopping time :D , yep no room for error... me thinks i will put the other disc back on the front :)

can anybody find out the distance from the finish line to the sand trap at
western sydney dragstrip. the top fuel bikes there do 200 to 220 mph over the finish line & just stop. i have seen brett stevens run into the sand trap there because of front wheel traction issues. i reckon they should use front tyre warmers on those things. if there was 100 metres more than that, i reckon it would be cool.
regards ben.

At the western end "Braking area"the strip has an up hill gradient. Not much but enough to aid in braking.
Beyond the bitumen is about 120 metres of ROUGH grass, then down a slope into a farm fence. The promlem here is,to get to the grassed area, getting between the airstrip marker lights! They are 12' (3.8m)apart.They also stand about 12" (300mm) High! Steel bases, bolted onto concrete bases. It's gunna hurt hotting one of these, both financially and damage to our venicles.
I think that if you were down to about 25 mph, you'd sneak thru.If this deal goes through,I'll speak to the engineer in charge about the possibility of making one (maybe two),of these lights removable.
This is all "pissin' in the wind" at this stage,Until we get an Official "Okey Dokey" from the council. But we must stay positive,so keep the ideas and thoughts coming.
We also want an idea of how many teams would travel up from southern parts to attend our events.Log your interest here.
As Lynchy mentioned, the council is going for the title of "The horsepower capital of Australia",combining the theme of cars and equestrian events.
Newspaper coverage will be easy (there are three papers in the area),and TV coverage thru Rodder's Life has been discussed.
More to report as info becomes available.
Cheers,Bob.

Thanks Bob, Don and Paul (and GW) for an excellent job last Thursday.

To turn this from a great idea into a running event we need one main ingredient. That is solid entries. Bob has mentioned this but I must back him up and ask anyone who has an interest please PM me or reply here.

Please express clearly your level of interest. Would you be ready to run with an event as soon as October, November,December.
We need at least 20 entries and would prefer a few more to make it happen.
If you know someone not on our little forum who wants a run please gather their contact details and Bob or myself will chase them up.

I know I'm getting ahead of the horse here but when we get a go ahead from the horsepower council we want to hit the ground running and know we have the numbers.

Thank you, Chris

Gary (and everyone else reading this),we are looking at running on a Saturday.(arrive Fri afternoon/night and set up,run Sat.BBQ/boozeup Sat nite,Pack up &clean up Sun morning ,head home about noon.
We have an environmental concern at the strip-"noise". We explained at our meeting with council, that most of our vehicles don't run mufflers. Concerns were raised on their part (there are residents nearby). So a "verbal" agreement was made to run between 8.00AM-about 4.30PM on Saturdays.
We have no idea on cost per entry at this stage, working on Insurance/Fire/Amblance,etc etc at present. The more entries, the cheaper per entry.
Gary , how is your enquiries going with a strip down your way?
Seems like the mexicans have not got access to Mangalore any longer, something about increased airtraffic due to closing some other airport.
Cheers, Bob.

The event (as it is currently envisaged) would be one day. Arrive Friday evening, set up and socialise. Start Saturday morning between hours as set by the council, likely 7 or 8am and run all day till close at approx 5pm. More socialising Saturday night and pack up and leave Sunday morning.

Costs are yet to be determined as it depends on council approval and finding out their charges + if we get approval we then chase a serious insurance quote.

Runs per entrant - depends on the numbers but I'd say you could have as many as you could stand. Entrant numbers will be restricted to DLRA members so this will restrict the numbers to a reasonable level. We're expecting/hoping for 20 - 30 cars/bikes.

Early days yet....

Dissapointed by that too Spook but maybe that leaves another airfield available if one has just become unused.
