Hey Greg, as long as the primary gear and alternator is OK ill take it, even then I can get others to replace them. Gearbox and clutch OK in it? The rest will be getting replaced with after market goodies.
That is depending on the price of course. If you coming to the lake in May/June and have room for it that would work out fine.

As long as i don't forget in the packing rush i will bring it and you can have a look , no idea at all what the insides are like , but i cant see any reason why water would have gotten into the gearbox etc , previous owner left it out in the weather after removing the head and cyls

Dave
RD will not work. All those cylinders and cranks are made for RZ/ banshee motors.
I am sure that r5/ds7, rd and lc are the same family and have a different bore spacing to an RZ.
Why not go to a 500cc engine? There is about a million different configerations up to 700cc for a twin (billet cases are advisable)
Have you seen these?

The TZ is a 1980 piston port based on R5 cases-- lucky to make 70 hp on a good day-- the good days have all passed for mine.
The bore spacing for RD/LC/R5 is 102mm
Greg, what is the bore spacing on the 400?- it should be the same
cheers Bones

Did I hear some one mention RD400 basket case?...lol.

Greg, if you are looking to move it on to a good home please pm me. :)

Barrel/Bore spacing and hence crankshaft spacing on all of the horizontally split air cooled engines is the same. R5 through to the G RD 400's. I wouldn't be surprised if the RZ motors ran the same barrel spacing, the difference is the cylinder base stud orientation.

The development that is taking place on the RZ250-350 motors because of it's placement in a popular American non-power valved ATV is quite astounding. The new DM series are producing on the dyno, similar power and torque curves to the 1000 cc R1 (trinity racing 610cc Dm Cheetah)

Quite amazing for an engine and gearbox you can carry under one arm

I hope you can get that together, it would be a great thing.

A mate of mine is building a 485cc Yam powered Aprilia RS250 for the road.

It is a CPI kit based engine.
I understand that these kits have a long development history and work really well.

Thanx Paul. I over geared it for my run on Friday and it wouldnt pull redline but there is still quite a lot there for next year. It would rev to 12500 at the Test & Tune days but refused to go past 11200 in the top 2 gears on the salt. Ive got a year to sort that one out. EGT was 1250 F. and plugs looked good colour.
On my run on Tuesday I hit the 2 mile marker at 11000 in top and was doing 11200 at the 3 mile. That was the 131 MPH run. 11200 is all it would pull in 5th so I need to have a rethink on engine specs I think.

Thanx Cookey. Claire says what happened the van stays in the van.

Dave

PS Claire said she had a great time in the timing van and is up for another stint next year. She has already started practising her cocktail mixing. I heard the Margaritas need work.

Ordered some new rods (stronger) for my Methanol Motor. Should be here within a week. Cant see me getting 150 MPH in the Gas class so Ross Brown has kindly volunteered to give me some tutoring in the ways of Methanol.
I have enough bits to build another motor so if it all turns to poo  ill still have my old one for next year.

Should be LOUDER too. NICE
