Yes its still progressing ( slowly ) . Engine has been in and out twice now . Only one small clearance problem to finish . Will have to modify sump to give a bit more clearance near the steering rack . Solved probs with steering shaft clearance and brake booster and master cyl. Port matched exhaust manifolds .

Now if this all doesnt come together for next years event , I will have a back up race car . I have another Skyline wagon , hereto refered as " the blue one " . It has the straight 6 sohc nissan engine . Couple of weeks ago i got my hands on a rechipped ecu and a reground cam . The guy I bought it off gave me the dyno sheets for the mods and it had 8 kw more than the engine that was in the " red one " with its modded sohc 6 and did 140 mph ( 2003 ).
Would much rather run the " red one " with its little V8 , but at least I wont miss running at the event thru not haveing a ready race car .

Its a bit like using just in a sentance Goggles. Like, I'll just fire this up and make sure nothing leaks. Death sentance the just word. Try not to use it

ok doomsdayers , update on blue wagon . Have put cam and puter in , also fitted modded manifold with XF falcon throttle body . All was bought off the same bloke . With all those mods he got 127 KW at the wheels , where as the sohc modded engine I used in 2004 had 108 KW and did 140 mph . So reserve race race car engine is done . So grandpa here gunna go down the dragstrip on " test and tune " night soon .

Ok now I am talking about the red car with the V8 . Yes progressing . On Saturday worked on the cooling system . Rehashed an EL Falcon twin thermo fan set up and installed . Hosed up the original radiator to the V8 . Filled it up and water pump leaking badly . Got on ebay and found new water pump in Melbourne , should be here in day or so .
Started on the biggest challenge , the electrical wiring for the engine and transmission . Before I dismantled the V8 half cut , I took umpteen pics of the harness and all the connectors , positions and mountings , so far has proven to be a big help , makes life a lot easier . So far most of harness is connected up in the engine bay .

You're going to need one of those shopping trolley trailers for the growing collection.
Good luck with the loom.

Glitches . The water pump i bought off ebay was the wrong one , and got a refund . Only option , import one . Nah didn,t want to do that .
Have bought a Davies Craig electric water pump 110 ltrs/min and a digital electronic controller . Have removed existing standard water pump and made up a blanking plate for where it used to be . Also these systems run no thermostat . Pump to be installed between radiator outlet and engine coolant inlet .

Decided recently to use the "reserve " wagon , the blue one , to run at the event this year . Realised I wouldnt have the red wagon with the V8 ready in time .
As mentioned earlier BLUE ONE has a modded 6 cyl and will run in F/PRO . Hopefully I can up my 140 mph F/PRO record . It has 20 KW more than the red one when it did the 140 mph .

Now where was we . last time i posted in this section i was doin the nissan v8 in the red wagon , and was going to take blue wagon to salt with modified sohc 6 .
About 6 mths ago I bought a complete rb25de ( 2.5 ltre dohc 24 valve inline six , Nissan ) off the good old Ebay for $350 .
So now i building up another 3 ltr (183 ci ) engine , like i ran in F/GC .
This time am incorporating a few extra features .
Heres a few stats with previous F/GC engine in brackets .
.
Compression ratio :11.7-1 ( 10.5 )
Cams : Tomie billet ( standard )
Bottom end : balanced ( not )
Intake : GTR RB26 6 throttle ( 2 x throttle body )
Headers : Rage brand 1 3/4" primaries ( rehashed rb30 with 1 1/2" primaries )
Cooling : Davies Craig electric water pump and 2 x EF Falcon thermo fans ( standard )
.
more to come
.
yeah yeah Gnome Racing I know " 6 inline is just fine "

the v8 project has just moved sideways , while i procrastinate .

OH and i dunno which wagon its going in yet .

Now that was last October 2007 , and due to the usual procrastinating , I,m finally off to Willowbank test and tune this Wednesday 10th Sep2008 . Oh yep , on Saturday I fitted the locked 4.11 diff and the smallest diam tyres I could find laying around , 195-60 x14 .
Then YES the blue wagon is going to make its competition debut 13/14 Sept 08 , at the Ozzie Inliners " six banger nats " at Warwick 1/8th mile drags .
