I tried a 15" Falcon rim on the front today as I intend to run 195/45/15 or 195/50/15 fronts. These should get the front spoiler almost onto the salt. Standard steel 15" Soarer rims are rare as most vehicles came with a space saver spare, full size was a cost option.
Caliper clearance was good, the center register was too large but easily fixed however the back spacing was insufficient. There's not enough rim ridge left to allow me moving the center outward the required amount (around 25mm) so Falcon rims are out.
Does anyone know of a 15" steel wheel with more backspace than the Falcon and obviously the same stud pattern? Camry perhaps?
A trip to the wreckers is on the agenda.
This pic is at full droop, at ride height it's worse. The spoiler is missing here and fills the gap between the bar and under tray.
Cheers,
Rob

We'll have you on the salt next year mate
G'day Dave,
Just as well you didn't have it bolted in at your joint!!
It won't be a roll cage that stops me making it, it'll be the fiddly stuff.. you know, engine, tow car, trailer....
Cheers,
Rob

Trailer...meh
Tow Car, I know where there's a nice Burgundy C2500 sitting. I figure the ole bugger has given up on it. might be able to pick it up cheap

I picked up some Camry 15" rims during the week, took them to work to do the 360' weld and will get them re-balanced next week.
Here's the good news, with a +45mm offset my clearance problems are over.
I also picked up a couple of roller doors cheap so should soon be able to work out of the elements for the most part.
Before and after pics.

That's at full droop Bob,
At normal ride height it's much improved but I haven't bothered checking as I'll likely replace all the front and rear end bushes.
Either way, it'll need another alignment when I'm finished getting it down. I need to pull the front coil overs and slice 'n dice the bump stops. From ball park measuring I need to find another 80 or so mm.
I also picked up another sponsor this week which is nice considering how early in the build the car is.
Cheers,
Rob
