Thanks Bob,

I have that part down, what I'm after is the bell housing bolt pattern as a dimensioned diagram so I can compare it to the 1UZ-FE to see what will be easiest to adapt.

Cheers,
Rob

Yes thanks Dave, that's just the ticket.

Sorry I missed your post the other day when I responded to Bob, forgot to "turn the page".

Cheers,

Both the other diagrams I have used the crank centerline as their point of reference.

I wonder why Ford decided to go a different route.

Yep strange, front uses crank as datum and rear uses what looks like a dowel hole.
Easier to measure from that point on the bell housing maybe?

No idea mate as they give reference for the crank CL as well.

I'll sit down and draw the lot one on top of the other and see what will work best. I suppose I should chase Mopar pattern too but everything Mopar isn't cheap (comparatively speaking).

Rob

what gearbox you going to use , best would be the supra 5 speed , plenty of kits around for them , its all been done before . Scattershields pretty simple to make out of 6 mm mild steel plate , as long as it will protect from exploding flywheel or clutch . I made mine about 150mm long , completely encircling bell housing and bolted to rear of engine .

G'day Don,

No 5 speeds for me mate unless it has 1:1 top. 3 or 4 speed are the likely choices. Per my earlier post, I have a top loader 3 speed and a single rail 4 speed as likely candidates at this time.

My original plan was to start with the Soarer auto but overdrive is short lived at 400HP and I believe I will need just a little more to eclipse 179.928mph.

Going manual will kill my chances of making it in 2011 I think. I need a flywheel, scatter shield, clutch setup including pedal, modified drive shaft and adapt another diff center. I can make a "G" series Toyota rear fit but it's still more work.

With a short external scattershield, what holds your gearbox up should the flywheel decide to saw your bellhousing in half? That's a pole vault I'd rather not take.

I had given thought to the agricultural approach using 6mm wall pipe and two plates but don't have the tunnel clearance required.

Cheers,
Rob

ok what about a ballistic blancket wrapped around bell housing + gearbox , and if you worried about gearbox dropping , a support brace underneath .

same thing that's holding it up now?......how many cars have the whole tranny and tailshaft hung off the back of the block?

Can't be hard to just put a loop around the whole box and bolt it through the floor if you're worried about it.......

Don/Doc,

Maybe on both counts but I really do think a full scattershield is far better insurance long term.

I'm sure a clutch explosion/loose flywheel will never happen but I'm also well and truely attached to all my body parts. A little extra work will be time well spent should the worst occur.

I do appreciate your chipping in though, any and all help/advice gratefully accepted!

Cheers,
Rob

Good news for me, I lucked onto a bender to use for the cage thanks to Pete Bartetzko who has also volunteered the use of his TIG.

There should be some measureable progress soon.

Picked up a set of extractors today, not sure if I'll use them but the price was right.

So, when do you want me to drop the TIG off at your place?! :D

Cheers,
