Check my welds?? What are you saying Paul? :(

Yep thanx but I think it would be too expensive to ship it here. Im going to use a couple of PSI and some soapy water to find the leaks, as im sure there will be a few.

Hey Pete, was quite quick once I worked out how to do it. I used the nibbler to rough them out and cleaned them up with a flap disk in the 5 inch grinder. Rolling was quick and painless, used some good quality cutproof gloves. I left some meat on each end and sat the cones on the 9 inch to get them nice and flat and to the right diameter.

I bought a full sheet of 1 mm cold rolled steel for $62.00. Might have used 200 mm of the 2800 length to do 1 pipe so plenty more to come.

Im using the front of my TYGA pipes as it looked to be a very difficult section to make and are very similar to the ones I was going to make, within mm's, but now ive done some of the easier cones I might give the front a go.

My welding is pretty bad - so I started developing the leak tester on bits that a really good welder did to make sure the system worked... The first thing I found was lots of leaks in the really good welds ;)

There is a sheet metal program which you can use to make a pattern for all the sections of a pipe.
My mete did the pattern for Alex's bike.
Tell the program a radius and the number of pieces for the header and it spits out a bunch of templates.
If you cut accurately they fit and weld perfectly.

Hey Bones. Im using Ian Williams MOTA program that comes with a chamber program, Works like a charm. I was just being a bit of a pussy and not game to attempt the front section but after doing the back 2/3 im happy to do the front.

I also have the Ian Williams software for about 2 years but have not used it.
We will put the rs125 into Alex's chassis and will need to use it--- I may need some help--
Alex uses the TIG for the .9mm we use but I would rather use the oxy.

The MOTA software is fantastic. I must have done 500 virtual dyno runs. Its got a RS125 already in there, all you need to do is start changing things and see what results you get. You can change stuff like reed petal

thickness and material, try all different exhausts, altering one dimension at a time, port timing, compression. You get the idea.

Me and Pete sat at the PC for hours giggling like lil girls at some of the results we got for an RGV. Whether the engine would hang together making 120 HP is another thing LOL.

Lots of revs with low comp versus lot more torque with high comp. Both on methanol.

It was a lot of fun .... still chucklin away to myself

What surprised me was the info that MOTA gives you .... piston speed, BMEP, exhaust temps and many more things right across the rev range .....

It might be theoretical but it at least gives some indication of what Mods to put in place .....
the other thing that amazed me was the way the programme showed that unless all the modifications complemented each other it showed a loss in theoretical power ....

Giggling Gerty
Still trying to decide if I am a procrastinator

Given up on welding. I got some special heat proof tape. The green stuff.. A couple of holes to fill and all done.

Not really. Just doing a test fit. It only just fits too. Welds are getting better, almost look respectable.

Pete sent me this video of my best run this year. I just got round to converting it to a format that I can upload. It lost a lot of quality tho.

Most time consuming job is getting the cones round before they get tacked and welded.

In this video they use a tapered mandrel. Any ideas what I can use as a substitute ?? Its at around 45 seconds.

Bit more progress, the other pipe taking shape. Getting easier by the cone.

Right pipe and left front pipe welded and flange mounted to left pipe. Getting there. Spent the day in the shed watching Bathurst so didnt get as much done as I wanted to. Got 10 more cones to cut and roll for left side then final fitting and make some mounts. Last bit will be finding some pipe with the right ID for the stingers. A bit of hydraulic tubing might do the job.

looks like a real time consumer Dave
I always pick a job on Bathurst day that I can do while watching telly in the work shop , just had to be careful I didnt cross wire s while wiring the busa
Are you chasing a change in power spread ? or to change the aero / body work ?
be interesting to see how the other pipes you show are made
keep on tigging
