New gaskets and pistons have arrived. Cylinders cleaned up OK.
Spoke to the guy that runs the local dyno about setting the A/F ratio for methanol at different throttle positions, he had no problems with that.
I just need to talk him into letting me do the throttle work.

Re: It lives
Engine back together, honed bores and new pistons and pressure tested. Something I didnt do last time, found some air leaks. Held 6 psi for 6 minutes so all good as far as leaks this time.

Hey Dave
I've never heard of doing this.
Did you plug the exhaust ports?
Does the engine use a lab seal between the crank cases?
Where did it leak?
cheers Bones

Re: It lives
Hi Bones, Yep Ex ports were plugged, and it has a lab seal. The leaks were around the inlet area. The long lengths on the inlet manifolds. I had reed spacers in place but couldnt get them to seal so removed them. It was leaking pretty bad to start with. I had to just crack the ball valve open and identify the leaks as it wouldnt hold pressure at all. When I pulled it to pieces to reseal the manifolds you could hardly see where they were leaking.
It will be on my "must do" list from now on. Spray bottle with some dish washing detergent and water found the leaks.

Dave
I've always used a gasket or 'o' ring and if the manifolds are a bit old and all of mine are, just a smear of
Locktite 515 and all is good.
Maybe something is not flat.
Hopefully Alex will come next year and ride his APS bike with the RS125 in it.
I went through some old posts and you (I think) said you would use an RS 250. I think the reverse cylinder Yamaha would be better
only for the packaging. They all made about the same HP

Re: It lives
Hey Bones, ive always used Locktite 515 or 518, great stuff but got some Threebond 1104, same as Yamabond 4. The reed spacers that I had made were the problem. They had a slight bow in them. I still use the 515 to seal the outer faces of the heads and the base gaskets.
The next bike I am going to build is going to be a big block and stroked RZ Yam. Ive picked up a couple of RZ250's at a reasonable price.

Re: It lives
Looking good Dave ... I like that set up ...
Bones I think you'll find that was me wanting to use a Honda RS250 engine
I was referring to the NXA model released in 2001 .... very different animal to the earlier Road Racing engines about 10- 15 hp up on the late 80's early 90's models, but a very high maintenance engine .... Yamaha's response was the 5KE .... brand loyalty was the difference ..... too many $$$$$ on my Budget .....
Pete
