Re: It lives
Well its that time of the year again. Bike is running on the bench with a bit of a de-tune over last year.
I couldnt get it to pull in top gear, so ive lowered the barrels and had the heads machined to lower the rpm that peak HP is produced.
Came home running last year, first time in a cpl of years, did 127 on my old record of 114. Still looking for another 140+ year.
Thanx
Dave

Re: It lives
Hey Cookey & Pete, yep catch ya both up there.
Forecast of low to mid 30's is looking good but lots can change between now and then.
Our old Land Rover has been retired after 10 years, 9 trips to the salt, so had to do some shopping round to find a replacement. Ended up with a Nissan Pathfinder, will see how it performs. Uses heaps more fuel than the old Disco did.

Re: It lives
Been a while since i posted here so thought id do a bit of an update. We missed the last couple of events but am keen on getting the bike going again for next year. I'm staying in the fuel class and am going to run e85 and NOS just for a bit of a tuning challenge. I've bought a NOS kit off Gum tree. I saw it there and watched the price drop until it was too cheap to not buy. My engine hasn't got many hours on it so ill pull the top end off and check it out and go from there. As long as the bores are OK I've got plenty of spare everything else to put it back together.

Re: It lives
A bit more shed time today, got the bottle mounted with room to spare. Have to cut a hole in the seat to access the tap.
Now i need to find a home for the battery and electrics that were under the seat.
Messed around with a gearing calculator to see if i had enough sprockets to get to my dream speed.Yep as long as the front sprocket fits in the cover and the chain clears the cases. If i run my highest gearing 5th will be around my fastest speed @ 11500 and top will give me my target. If the NOS works and my poor little engine holds together.

Re: It lives
Well that was a bit scarie, drilling holes for the NOS foggers in my new carbs. Just enough room. Still need to find room for 2 x solenoids and a fuel pump.
Hope my charging circuit can handle all of the drain. I've bought a lithium battery to give a constant voltage. Only need to run the NOS for 30 seconds but that's a lot longer than they are designed to run. I think you can pulse the solenoids so that might be an option with bigger jets.

Re: It lives
OK a bit more progress. Got the fuel pump and solenoids mounted. Foggers plumbed in and some switches and stuff done.
Bottom right switch is kill switch, top right is NOS armed switch, top left light is NOS armed light and bottom left button is "Hang On" button.
I've used poly carb to mount the solenoids and fuel pump so i could see what i was doing in the restricted space. I've made a stainless plate to put in its place if the scrutineers don't like the poly, but it makes mounting and running hoses and cables so easy.
Ill be putting some more fittings on the solenoid outlets to give me some room to run the hoses down to the carbs.
Still got to mount a fuse box and 40 amp relay in there somewhere.

Re: It lives
A bit more of an update. And a question about the bottle. My maths isnt that bad i didn't think but i can't seem to make these numbers out that are on the bottle. 4 lb+ 2lb 8oz = 6lb?
Anyway, battery is mounted. Still need to finish off the mounts but that will come later.
I cut a hole in the seat to gain access to the bottle tap and be able to read the bottle pressure without removing the rear fairing. The hole will be covered by a hinged seat that will have some carpet glued on. Don't look at the fiber glass job too close. I might give it a bit of a sand to tidy it up.
Fitted a new rear tyre as the old one was past its use by date of 10 years.

Re: It lives
Hey RGV
How much are you going to spray (hp)?
Are you going to start spraying as you enter the measured mile?
I've been thinking of some gas on my new bike, next year.
Be careful with that battery. I understand that they need a different charging rate than a lead acid.
I had one in a street bike and it would go flat any time. Swapped it for a regular battery and all is good for 3 years.
see you soon Bones

Re: It lives
Hey Bones, I've got jeting for 10HP, so 5 per cylinder up. The kit came with 20 up to 50 so i had to buy all the jets ill be using.
Ill start just before the measured mile I think. It will be trial and hopefully not error.
I hope that the battery will be OK as it will only be on charge for a couple of minutes, the time it takes to do a run. I'm using a lithium thinking it will keep a constant voltage with 2 solenoids and a fuel pump running. But yep I might grab a conventional battery as a spare.
Ill let you know how it goes probably Wednesday on the salt. I want to get it turned for my fuel before I try the NOS.
What is your new bike going to be or is it a wait and see thing?
Thanx Dave
