Dave

The Lectron people recommended 38mm Carbs for a full power RGV engine doing WOT Land Speed duty.

Yep Pete thats what I thought. I bought the 40's thinking they were 38's. Im looking at some 38's on evil bay now. If I stuck with these id have to make new inlet manifolds and stuff as the carb body is bigger.

Change of plans as far as Fuel goes. As im building a long rod crank for my bike im going to run on Gas again instead of going to Fuel or I wont know if ive gained anything from my crank or just the Methanol that has given me any performance gains. So ill hold off till I get this mod sorted.

OK bit been happening in the shed. Ive assembled the new long rod crank and assembled the top end to check the port timing. I didnt know what the extra 5mm on the rod was going to do. After a few different thickness base gaskets I got the deck height right and measured the timing. Worked out not too much, not too little, just right for the few more rev im looking for.

Then it was time to drill some lube holes in my nice new Wiseco pistons. Did a test drill in an old cast piston to see if it was going to work. Marked the exhaust bridge on the pistons and held my breath. I couldnt believe how much harder the forged Wiseco was compared to the cast Vortex I did the test drill on.

So my barrels can be packed up and sent over to UK for Ceramic Coating. Seems strange that I can send them to UK and have then state of the art Ceramic Coated for $300 less than sending them to Melbourne and having them Electrosil plated. Thats a free set of pistons.

I've heard mixed reports about the guys in Melbourne.
I'm taking a bag full of tz cylinders to the States with me-- about $200 a hole

I got my last ones done by Electrosil in Melbourne, quick turnround but bloody expensive.

Im sending mine here this time. http://www.poetonaptec.co.uk/apticote.htm 135 Pounds each($227) + postage compared to $440 + postage here. Postage is only a bit over double to get them there. One of the guys with a big bore (Athina) and stroked RZ had all sorts of problems with it nipping up around the auxiliary exhaust ports. Many recoats with Nikasil till he tried this ceramic coating and he has 10,000 + km on it now with no problems. He pulled it down regularly for inspections and the bore looked to be like new last time he posted pics.

Looking good Dave.

It makes sense to stay in Gas and get a comparison.

I am going to send my Barrels over to UK as well.

Switching to metanol half way through the week might not be to much of an issue Dave..
As long as your taps and feed lines will carry the volume.. set it up on the fat side and you should not
have an issue..

Got my barrels back from the Ceramic Platers in the UK. Honing looks course but is quite smooth. Just needed to clean up the flashing in the ports a bit. Very nice reliving on the exhaust bridge. Overall a good job and cheaper than sending them to Melbourne for Nikasil.
